What exactly is invalid click, will somebody explain? (sorry if the question is silly)

Are you referring to affiliate advertising and click-based advertising? If so, I think an invalid click would depend on the rules of each ad network. Invalid click might also be another name for click fraud.

Or am I way off and that's not what you're asking about?

well if you are talking about the adsence invalid click then it the click when you do it from your own server or it from any other place again and again or daily this will make problem for you and google did not accept it and in result it blocks your account and you could not earn more money

if you click from your ip then it will immediately remove your account because Google tracking system is too advance so be careful

Every adsense site has rule.
I think invalid clicks mean fake or spam clicks.
