To the OP. My best advise is to stay away from the usual banner ad sizes and use the newer shapes (like squares) and the text link ads. People are too used to seeing banners and ignore them, so use the odd sized shapes and you will get better results. Also, try not to make the ads stand out from your design - otherwise they look like, well .. ads

I agree!
Those rectangular ads, 300x250, work the best!
