Thread: Does page rank really matter ?

I read a couple of articles and according to the author's they say that google said that Pagerank doesn't really matter (traffic wise) as it has no relation to the traffic google is sending.

I absolutely beg to differ. My pagerank on one of my sites recently fell from 4 to 0 (some violation that I can't seem to find - working on getting the PR back) and traffic has also fallen.

Anybody have any comments on this?

I also agree with this. One of my clients site has PR-0 and he has good amount of traffic, whether my company website which has PR3 has very less traffic.

But page rank would not influence traffic.
Page rank is a resulting of backlinks from sites with high authority.

It's only goog when you want to sell links to other people who care about PR, not otherwise.

Well it depends on what company you have.. If you have a webhosting it matters becouse if a customer search for "web hosting" and your website pop up in the first 5 pages he will look it.

I'm a seo expert and I can confirm that Page Rank has no influence on your Google search engine positions whatsoever. Page Rank scores are done according to the "importance" of a given website - nothing else.

So when trying to get better rankings, do not be saddened if your Page Rank does not increase, and don't forget, Page Rank only updates once every 3-4 months.

After reading your question, I assume you wanted to discuss ranking in Google Search Engine and not for Google Adwords.

As said before, for Adwords campaigns, ranking has no effect on the placement of your ad as it is a paid service. But yes, in organic search, Google can rank you from 4 to 0 if you don't follow their rules.

Try to get more quality links to retain your page rank, because page rank gives an indication how much work need to be done in gaining links....

as for as adwords is concern there is no connection in adowrds and page rank

Nope, page rank is only good for selling sites/links to newbies.

For me Page rank is necessary. The more quality links you have pointing your way, the better chance for search engines to notice you.

Keep in mind that PageRank is only one of search engine's 200 or so determining factors when searching for relevant content. PageRank does matter to your website, but it is not the know all end all of web rankings. PageRank is essentially a link analysis algorithm that totals how many times a given page has other sites linked.

As far as I know Page rank doesn't have nothing to get targeted traffic to your site although they say that PR helps with SERPs rankings,but it at times it can be powerful when you want get backlink from authority site. They usually doesn't exachange links with low PR sites

I agree with Jessica30 on this one. I tend to target sites that have a higher PR than the site I’m SEOing for - and it brings the sharpest increases.

It makes sense too. Some SEOs in their desperation for higher SERPS accept any link that’s given. But people looking to interact with each other are unlikely to link sites worse than theirs.

So it’s important to filter SEO activities through human interaction! Think like a person just looking to meet other people might think – not a machine desperate for higher rankings.

Traffic and page rank is different. A website having without page rank can gain more number of traffic while having good number of pagerank achieve less website. All it depends your link building structure.

Page ranks gives positive value to website. Visitor trust the website which has high page rank

I think google still uses page rank as a ranking factor to a certain extent.

I think Alexa rank is more relevant.

are you using black hat or maybe autoblog?
I think page rank is important, but not too important.
it can give you traffic, but if your site is ecommerce site, just focus on how to get customer, not page rank.

Page rank is impression of the webpage . Website have good Page rank like 5 7 , Cached more by the search engine spiders .

High page rank mean visitor trust the website which has high page ranks. having high page ranks means your site becoming more poplularity.

I thought you are confused with Page Rank and SERP. Page Rank is the rank assigned by google on the basis of backlinks you have and many other factors, while SERP is the search engine result position i.e. when you search for any term and the results display, their position is called Search Engine Result Position of that website for the particular keyword.

Here the discussion is about page rank and you are replied for serp. Search Google for more information on the difference between PR and SERP.

internal links have strong effect on page rank ..you should try to make more internal backlinks

Your rank is incredibly important! If you want to make income, then you'll need your rank. It isn't the only thing that'll make an impact on your income, but you can make a better income if your rank is higher.

PR is important... but I think ancors with keywords on trustable sites are much better for SERP

Well we can see a lot of .edu domains with a very high PR, but I havent seen them in SERP to much... for example
just type education and you will see gov and other domains =)
