    Just a quick rant.
I logged into my adwords account to find most of my ads currently deactivated as they did not hit googles minimum ctr. Many didn't even have any impressions, without impressions how does google expect a higher ctr?! In order to reactivate many of the keywords they want me to bid a minimum of $10 per click!!!!! or in their words to optimize the ad. I don't know how much more optimized the ad could be, it was over optimized if anything. I swear sometimes you can't win with that program. It can be great, just times like this makes me want to pull my hair out. Do they not understand sometimes people simply do not click on ads!.....

Sounds idiotic. I've never used the program so I can't offer much on that. Is this normal practice for Adwords?

Yes it is. I could waste money advertising on Google, but after a test of a PPC campaign on Adwords, I deceided that whilst my traffic increased, the number of holiday enquiries didn't.

What it did do is increase the number of advertisers, which is not what I was wanting the campaign to do. I haven't tried since.

PPC in general is hit or miss. Some make huge money on it. I bought packages from 2 other programs trying to get some business rolling to my main site. All it did was raise my traffic slightly, no new orders. Another waste of money...

What industry is it that needs $10 a click. I know the in the UK some channels require bids above £5 which is about $8.50... You can bid that but pay a lot less.

You have to remember with Google that unless you have some history in your account and a good CTR you are never going to make anything...

Grim, The $10 min might be because they do not like the landing page either. If Goog thinks your page is not of high quality, of course their the experts, then the mandate minimum higher bids of 5 or 10 per click. They make the decision on whether or not the landing page is of quality or not. I have not heard of deactivation for lack of click through rate. That is all I heard about the higher min bids....Another reason to hate Goog.

It had nothing at all to do with 'landing pages' it was traffic being driven to a site google has loved for years. It even stated 'click through' rate as the reason.

Click through rate is a common cause for deactivation in adwords and has been since it was created.

Not enough 'clicks' per impression in googles yes
    This was Adwords.

It depends on the market/niche. Some google is not as picky on, others they will cut you off unless your ad is getting hit all the time almost immediately.

Huh, did not know. I did know they uped min bids to combat arbitrage. BTW I have not been to your site and there was no intent to say it was bad or whatever, I was just stating what I knew about adwords...Which is not much LOL.

NEO, you need to share your adwords knowledge with us. From what you have posted in the past I would be interested in learning more from you.

Thanks bub... but I'm really just being tutored by a genius Brian Mark is who I've gleaned all of my AdWords Knowledge from... And every once in a while... Brad Callen has an interesting tid bit too

Go and take a look at this http://www.neo1seo.com/WTF/WTF-quickie-analysis.htm I ran a quickie analysis of this site... for an example (hope that's okay w/ the admins)

you can see from the analysis that there is (when a 10,000 keyword strategy is laid out in front of you) that even if you only bid .03 on $2.00 key phrases you can still bring in hits from each and every term! Some get denied... yeah, well no one's perfect... I used to HATE Google... but it's hard to bite the hand that feeds ya

One of the biggest things out there is 'trailing terms' I'll do up an AdSense / AdWords post about the whole thing... there's so much to say, and I don't want to hijack the thread

Grim, I am wondering whehter a "Google Slap" was imposed on your site. It may not have anything to do with the CTR or quality of the actual landing page. Rather, it has got to do with the entire site itself.

It seems that the main targets for the Google slap are mini-sites that provides little in terms of information or products= e.g.

    1. those which only provides a squeeze page for capturing e-mail addresses.
    2. Review sites that only has one page of information.

To counteract this, the adwords guru that the site should have a semblence to a full website e.g. with contact information, privacy policy, faq etc. It should also be boarder in nature and have more information pages.

Not a chance, it's a long standing site with Google, well liked by google. Very information filled, extremely unique offering products for sale.
It all depends on the keywords I went after, pretty much gave up on it anyways.

Most of the advertisers I encounter wouldn't even look at me till I did proper about, privacy and contact pages and or info.

But that's not a bad thing. I have no experience with adwords.

In no area of IM do I see so many claims of high earnings and yet so much more reports of dissapointment. Obviously, you have to be prepared to bleed for the first 24-72 hours in order for CPC data to be built up. It is important to set up a daily maximum budget.
