Thread: Are affiliate programs more profitable than adsense?

Affiliate programes always look enticing because they pay large amounts of money, but are they really, more profitable than PPC (e.g. adsense)?

I can see them working on very high volume websites, but what about lowish volume (say 100-200 visitors/day)? Are they worth a try?

I'd be interested in anyone's actual experience, rather than just guesswork!

They can be. It depends on where you put the advert, also what kind of visitors you get.

Sometimes targeted affiliate offers are much better than PPC or any other type of adverts, even on small sites (like you said, 100-200/day).

Just try some out on your site(s) and see what happens.

Affiliate marketing has a lot more potential than AdSense, but there's more work required. AdSense is automatic, while affiliate campaigns require testing, site building, and updates to do well. It just depends on the balance of effort v. income you're looking for.

To me they are and the niches are excellent. But adsense is a good side earner

I guess it will depend on the niche of the websites. But IMO, affiliates works really well right now in the adult industry..

Agree, but it's the same situation with other niches too. For example, computer / hardware related niches are ( sometimes ) very low payed.

Yes it could be - depends on how much time you have on your hands . If you dont have much - root for adsense - it rocks

Affiliate programs much more profitable but it's require a lot of hard work.

Yes, affiliate marketing has got more advantages over Adsense program. With affiliate marketing you can earn more money than with Adsense. Any given day I rate affiliate marketing better than any other contextual advertising programs.

I've had experience with affiliate programs and adsense. I would recommend keeping adsense if you are making enough. Affiliate... it's hard to get a signup, also depends on your niche.

You need to know some tricks about Affiliate marketing to promote their products to earn more with affiliate

I agree that to run adsense ads on a website you may not need to know many things that are required in promoting an affiliate offer. Howerver, when it comes to earning nothing can beat affiliate marketing as it has got unlimited earning potential.

To your question are they more profitable, YES since the payout is higher. But even that depends from your conversion rate. Even a 100-200 visitors a day blog/site can pull good affiliate revenue if it's content is selling the product very well. Its more of..how to convince your visitors that they should click the affiliate link and purchase the product more then "volume" of traffic.

Interesting... The cashflow in adsense is somewhat automated while affiliate programs require more hard work so I'm probably going for the latter. In the end, it still depends, because both are very popular nowadays and with more popularity comes greater competition.

Many have commented about the type of traffic you have in your site. In that field, I truly believe that in computers and tech websites, affiliate ads just won't do since less people will press on them. Most of the people that understand a thing or two about computers usually don't press on ads and even less tempt to sign-in in a site after forward there from an affiliate ad.

Being in the affiliate marketing business is not that hard now with the internet at your disposable. It is much easier now compared to the days when people have to make use of the telephones and other mediums of information just to get the latest updates on the way their program is coming along.

I totally agree with your perspective over this affiliate marketing business. Affiliate marketing is not very much hard once you have the right marketing tools with it.

Affiliates can be more profitable? yes i agree, for the same traffic and CTR, between adsense and affiliates, affiliates can bring you better revenue.

It depends on your traffic and your niche.

Usually you can see a good example for an affiliate in blogs.

Lets say the blog is on pizza (just the first thing to pop in my mind ) and the blogger is writing on variety of topics regarding pizza, then one post the blogger write that you (the reader) must try this pizza from that certain shop (adding the blogger's affiliate link of course). Well, if you like the blog and read it daily, then you are probebly going to try it - thus doing the blogger some money.

That was of course a very stupid example, but I think you can get the idea...

Instead of affiliate marketing I set up my own paid versions of free services that I offer. I advertise them the same way I would advertise an affiliate marketing site. In the end it's more profitable for me than PPC. I consider AdSense side income. I don't rely on it since the earnings from clicks fluctuates so much.

my friend makes a fortune from one particular affiliate. Its all targeted to PC maintainance, but hes managed to quit his day job on the strength of it.

It all depends on your site. Many sites do well with Adsense, while some have more luck with affiliate programs. In our case, we earn in half day with Adsense what we earn in one month with affiliate programs as Adsense is doing exceptionally well for us

I also think it has a lot to do with your content. What is your site about? Does it have a niche audience or a broad audience?

Depending on that an affiliate program might work better than AdSense.

Yep. There are a LOT of affiliate programs that are more porfitable than Adsense. It's all about the program you choose and your effort.

You can have both. Place Adsense with your articles. You can make a big earning through affiliate products, but it depends on the niche and product you choose.
