Maple Leaf meat recall - Help

If you haven't heard about this tragic event here in Canada, you can find tons of stories here, http://news.google.ca/news?hl=en&um=...nG=Search+News

Anyway, the day before the recall of all meat from all stores and before I even heard about this, I purchased two packs of Maple Leaf bacon at Wal-Mart. I already ate some and figured I'm fine as I'm not ill or anything.

Then I realized I should take this more seriously, and now read it can take 2-30 days for symptoms to even appear.

I am trying to find the code for the factory so I can tell if my Bacon is from there, I don't want to trash perfectly good bacon but this is a serious situation as people have died and more and more are getting sick.

If you come across any information about what to search for on my packaging to discover if it's from the infected plant, please let me know.

In the meantime, my search continues, and if I do find out it is from that plant, I guess I'll be freaked out for a month. :(

ETA: found a list of products and codes, http://canadianpress.google.com/arti...QTWjo015RZe5cw

I am so glad for my instincts. Today I went walking over to my local library. I got to the end of my street and as I was approaching the sidewalk to turn, I noticed a big white truck of some company and a white van, both just sitting there, the driver was in the driver seat and his passenger hanging around outside the door on his side, so right by the sidewalk. The van guy was sitting out the side of his van.

I immediately felt intimidated and threatened, which usually does not happen to me. I learned with men you just stick your nose up in the air and they think you're a snob and leave you be.

They were right at the curb, to walk by I could be trapped in so I took the road around them, out of my way, I walk by and the one standing by the passenger door yells out a hello. Innocent enough so I say "Hi, how are you?"... he then asks if I am enjoying the nice weather and I say yes... the driver then says hello, but he didn't give off that intimidating vibe, and he was shutting his door.

Next I am past the van, I get about 10 feet past and look to my left to see what they're doing behind me and lo and behold this enormous fat f*cker from the van is following me, he looked creepy as hell, no one was around. I was immediately threatened, didn't want to run and look like a freak, I sped up a bit and kept going, so did he.

The thing with my library is it's at the community center and I am coming from behind, where no one is... :(

I eventually look back and see him still coming and saying some shit to me, sweetheart something or other... I am now alongside the building hoping and praying someone comes...

Thank God a young boy on a bike came and the man behind me changed his path and went another way, by then my heart was racing and I felt panicked, I seriously believe I narrowly avoided being attacked, gang-raped and possibly kidnapped and murdered. I am not over-reacting, I never get this feeling and today I got it and trusted it and Thank God I did, the fact they spoke to me and then followed me is enough of a sign.

Before I went back home I peeked to see that their vehicles were gone and they were.

Geesh, tonight I will have nightmares, just the sheer size of this guy alone was freaky. :( Had I walked up alongside their vehicles on the sidewalk I am sure I would have been nabbed. :(

Wonderful, my laptop has a dead pixel in the middle left of the screen. Weird, it wasn't there when I left for vacation, do you think it's punishing me for being gone 2 weeks?

My extended warranty covers dead pixels, I guess I'll have to find it, check that it's still active and get this fixed.

I wonder what's involved and how long it will take, will I get a whole new screen?

:)

ETA: Another pixel just died, this is SO annoying! I hope my warranty covers this as I don't have any way to get a new notebook.

Can't wait to get back home to my 'puter! :(:)

I've been on a two week vacation, while it's nice out here, I hate downtime where I'd usually be on my laptop doing my own thing. I can't stand doing nothing or just watching TV.

This is the only website which I took down the password for (since I use Roboform and don't remember them) when I left for vacation, made me realize it's the only site I really go to or like going to, aside from Google News where I mainly love to read the "Sci/Tech" section.

I only brought flip flops so I had to buy some running shoes, haven't had any in over a year, omg when I put my foot in these new shoes in the store I fell in love, it was like walking on clouds. Here I thought the flip flops were comfy but these are even better, I'll love them when I get home and go for walks and to the store, library, etc.

I finally got a watch too, haven't had one in over 5 years it seems cause I'm so picky about them but I finally just found one I can tolerate, I look at it all the time, I must really like having one. :D

Probably the best thing though is I actually tanned, I always burn so I use SPF45 but this time I brought along a self tanning SPF8 and it actually worked, it's nice having some color.

Several days ago we went canoeing down the Saskatchewan river, we did 50 miles, it took us 9 hours to accomplish and it was absolutely horrible!

Ok fine, the first 25 miles were ok, but then the pain and burning set in, for our first time doing such a thing, it was way too much. My BF told me at one point that we're there (done), but then a bridge would go by and he'd say the next one, then the next one, omg, after 4 bridges of this, I said to him "if it's not the next one I am taking this paddle over your f'ng head"... to him this was hilarious, but I wasn't kidding. Lol.

At the start, you can actually get out and swim in the river (further on it's too polluted), it had lots of isolated little beaches throughout it too, my favorite part. The deepest it would be is about 5 feet, some parts while canoeing though were about 12 or more but we didn't go in those parts.

At one point, little rapids managed to tip our canoe, out went our coolers, bags, every damn thing and I was freaked out. You have to paddle into rapids, can't go alongside them, we didn't seem to know this at the time.

At first I was concerned about saving the paddles in my hand but where we were in the water was swirling real fast, I got tossed around and have bruises on my legs and even my ass from huge rocks at the bottom of the river. My step mother-in-law was panicking and telling me to swim to their canoe so um, I kinda bailed on my BF (lmao) and held onto their canoe, My BF had our canoe, still tipped over and was holding onto all the coolers, and bags and paddles and whatnot.

I know it's shallow water and I had a life vest but it was very fast and rough in that spot and I didn't know what to do, I kept getting hurt in the rocks and the other canoe, I kept getting trapped under and around it so yes I was FLIPPED out cause I thought I'd get trapped and drown under it.

So, I was trembling after this for about 30 minutes and will NEVER do it again!

The highlight for me is I have strong arms, I love to go fast, I paddle the best of everyone. What use will this be? Well you never know. :p

I get home on Tuesday night, I cannot wait to get home!

Saskatchewan River

edit: well for some reason the feed here isn't listing my blog, so I guess no one will end up reading this, lol.

It's been an awful day.

Some of you may remember that despite being a chemist I wanted to enter medical school. Despite my best efforts they have rejected me 3 years running. There's just too many applicants and too few places.

Anyway, this morning one of the medical schools I applied to for entry this year (beginning Sept 08) - who rejected me earlier this year - rang me up completely out of the blue and offered me a place.

They wanted an answer there and then. I asked if my entry could be deferred until next year and she said no. It was a take it or leave it decision now.

The trouble is, as they had already rejected me earlier, I had made other arrangements so I had to turn them down. As good an offer as it was I'm not the sort of person to leave someone else in the lurch.

So I guess that's my one chance at medicine gone for ever.

Bugger.

It's 2250 hrs here in the UK and I've just received a phone call.

I hate late night phone calls. Most people are courteous enough not to ring so late in the evening, so late phone calls usually mean important - invariably bad - news in the offing.

It was my Aunt. I do not know her well - have maybe seen her a couple of times as a young child and that's it. She tells me that her mother - my maternal grandmother - died earlier this evening.

I'm worried that I sounded cold on the phone. My mum was raised by her father (my maternal grandfather) because her mother pretty much abandoned her as a child. She has barely spoken to her mother since and I don't remember ever meeting her.

News of her death therefore has no great significance to me, which I may have conveyed in the phone call. It wasn't anything I said - probably more what I didn't. I didn't offer condolences, I just said "well thanks for letting me know, I'll pass the message on."

Another complication is that my parents are away on holiday for the next week and a bit. I have no desire to potentially spoil my mum's enjoyment (unlikely, but you never know) so I'll not be telling her the news until she gets home.

Mmm, bugger.

So.
I'm at work right now.
And, On my way to work, I take the bus.
After a quick 20minute bike ride.

I went to get off the bus, said my usual thank you.

Hopped off the bus, and landed in a hole.
My ankle went left, my body went right.
And even with my huge headphones on, I heard a rather large crack. Or felt it rather.

And yeah, I'm in tears, on the ground, can't get up.
And the bus driver, gets up, walks to the door, looks down at me and goes.

Wow, smooth kid.

And took off.

What a prlckkk!!! D: <

I'm angry.
And in pain.

Might leave work and go have it checked out.
I can feel it swelling

Oh, and on top of that.
I'm in the middle of buying a new bike, and learning how to rollerblade, and going to the gym. So there goes my fitness lifestyle.

I'm in the middle of remodelling my room, so now I can't get on a ladder to paint etc, or anything.
Nor can I really bike to ikea to buy all my shit.

Oh, and my girlfriend?
Yeah, I think we;re over.

So, OH BOY.
My life sucks.
Give me some sympathy, it's my birthday in a few weeks.

Will I have time to post more? Work on my websites? Get the 8 million things I need to do done? (while spending some time playing LotRO too...lol).

Maybe, maybe not....we'll see :)

Today at work (at a lumber yard) I was working and I smashed my middle finger in between 2 boards and it instantly began bleeding!!!!

The nail was black and blue and basically falling off, the back side of my finger was split and you could see some of the 'meat' in it.

I went to the doctors and they gave me 4 stitches, ouch.

It's bandaged up now and I got some meds for it, hopefully it gets better. :o

Finally got a bit warm here, enough so that I grabbed the grandson (who just go in last night from his dad's in Michigan) and we went and got the a/c unit out of storage.
Installation: 5 minutes (longer than I thought with wife helping).
Now it is cooling this room and the rest of the place.

Still have to seal it up a bit better.
