Thread: Wordpress 2.7 Released

Wordpress 2.7 has been released to the masses! I'm excited about this one, it's simply an awesome upgrade that I've been running for a couple of weeks.

There's many new features, a completely redesigned admin interface which is off the hook it just makes blogging less of a chore and more of a getting things done type thing.

One of the great features for us webmasters is automatic upgrading of both Wordpress and plugins. In 2 clicks you can upgrade wordpress and plugins. No more FTP and all that mess.

A word of caution: There are some significant template changes for 2.7 old templates may not work fully or at all with 2.7. Be prepared to go theme hunting when you upgrade.

I've only had a chance to take a little look, but I like what I have seen so far and the new layout is awesome

I upgraded one of our blogs to the beta a few weeks back and have been pleased with the new look.
now I need to update the rest of the blogs, I'm interested to see what the "new comments" looks like.. I didn't update the style when I updated to 2.7 beta, so I'm not really sure what the difference is

Wordpress dev team made an extraordinary job, I'm currently updating all my blogs.

Another reason for upgrade, don't know if you guys found out but all wordpress versions lower than 2.7 can be easily hacked.

I hated the RC1 version, but all that I hated was fixed in the final release.

I find the admin area confusing... still want older versions.

upgrade went ok, for me. I had over 92 plugins installed, had to deactivate over
10 of them, and re-write many. But, took me 1 day and I was back on smooth.

Did any else, encounter any errors. The big ones I got was from
Search Unleashed, not sure if he fixed it yet or not, I just rewrote it
and fixed it myself.

I use Contact Form 7, and all of the contact forms came up with a PHP error. It sucked, but it's all fine now.

It's taking me a little while to get used to the new version, but I'm sure ill be okay with it soon. I just don't like change much lol.

I haven't had the time (or the guts) to do the upgrade yet! I am scared. :sblush: If anything goes wrong I won't know how to fix it. :scry:

Then use this: WordPress › Wordpress Automatic upgrade « WordPress Plugins. It backs up everything for your blog and does all uploading. Takes like a minute to do, and there's really no risk. :scheesy:

Then you can uninstall that plugin because WP 2.7 has an automatic upgrade in it.

Thanks!! That looks like a great plugin! But I am more worried about my other plugins not being compatible with the new version. :scry:

Alright, alright.... I'll stop whining. :stongue:

I'm impressed with the new 2.7 admin area. They did a great job. Curious to see how future 'auto' upgrades work out. And the "Press This" bookmarklet is fabulous.

My only gripe is that it's such a BIG piece of software, with lots of intricacies (and all that ugly embedded PHP throughout the HTML), it's a very steep learning curve to create custom themes and bend it to your design will.

One of the reasons I've been playing with Textpattern. Far from feature parity with WP, but it's pretty easy to bend and shape to your design will. It really does a decent job of staying out of your way once you figure out the design principles used to create it.

How long until the exploits come out?

2.7 relise is awesome!

The new design is much more easy thanks to the sidebar tabs.
