I was using a static front page plugin, does not work anymore and appears to no longer be supported.
Anyone have a good alternative?
I want a static front page basically listing information of my company, sites etc available, on my blog.

You don't need a plugin to do that.
Just create a page, customize it with your desired static page.
After you created a page,
Go to Settings on the left side bar menu of your dashboard.
Click the "Reading" navigation.
You should see this then:
Click on the "Static Page" radiobutton.
The drop down menu should display all your pages. Select your desired static index page.
Under the "Post Page" will be your default blog page. So whenever you posts an article or an update, it will automatically be posted on this page.
Click "Save Changes"
Hope it will work.![]()

From what i remember that is already inbuilt in wordpress .... no need for plugin.
goto setting--> reading---> select page with no(instead of latest posts) to show on front page.
edit: beaten
That must be available on new versions, mine does not have that.
grim added 3 Minutes and 35 Seconds later...
Upgraded the install and it worked![]()

You can also "Sticky" a post, that will keep it on the front page. "in new version of wp"

Are you running a successful forum? If so, I'd love to blog about it.
Themes which have a different page template from post and index template are better for your requirement as they allow you to customize the appearance of your pages (may be you do not want sidebars on them etc.)

great help...
Hey thanks for the information. It help me a lot.
There are 2 ways to creating static front page.
first was mentioned by zeruel and the second one by creating / adding home.php in your wordpress theme, home.php can be modified as you want. so you dont need to touch index.php or the other file.
@zeruel.... Thanks for posting this solution. I have been looking for this for a while now.
