Traffic to blogs are not that easy to get. Social bookmarking, pinging goes so far. Your blog's niche is important. Over saturation of niches is a concern. Gimmick, advertising, looks, page loading, readability, page navigation are aspects to think about.

I trick I learned is spammers add some code in their posts to track how many are listed with a google search.
