Thread: Four Great Ways To Generate Traffic To Your Blog

Your blog is up and you are busy writing and adding information but what you need more than anything is visitors to enjoy reading what you have written.

Here are four ways that I use to bring visitors to my blog.

Social networks
Social networks are websites that are driven by the community. So they provide community driven content which means you do less work if you own one (although moderating one is enough work in itself!)

This has to be one of my most active traffic generation methods and there are plenty to choose from including Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, MyBlogLog, and other less popular ones.

I join because they allow me to post events, classifieds, bulletins and messages that other people will read. In addition you also have your own profile that allows you to talk about who you are and link to your website(s).

Articles
Writing articles is still one of the most effective ways to drive traffic to your site. Not only because the article site will feature them but also because other people will use them in their blogs, on their websites, in their ezines and in other places online.
As each article contains your signature file with your details in it (which must remain as part of the conditions of people using your article) you are given free advertising on other people's sites!

Of course you also gain a link back to your site (back linking is still one of the MOST effective ways of driving traffic to your site)
There are loads of article sites on the internet and a search engine search will find them for you.

Podcasts
A podcast is an audio which has been given a special xml link.
The great thing about podcasts rather than audio is the fact that people can download your audio mp3 file and listen to it whenever they want to using their ipod, PDA, computer or other device.

The other great thing about podcasts is the fact that people can subscribe to them using an RSS link which is shown as an orange button. A subscriber clicks on that link and all your podcasts are automatically downloaded, which means they do not have to keep returning to your site to download your latest podcast.

It also makes your job as the podcaster easier because you only need to put your link into a podcast directory once and every time you update your podcast link (or feed as it is known) it will automatically be updated in the podcast directory. So once you go through the work of submitting your feed once you never have to do it again.

Social Book Marking Sites
It has now become popular to add your articles, blog posts, videos and podcast to popular social book marking sites like Stumbleupon, Digg and Del.ici.ous because people can vote on them as well as save them for future reference.

The more votes you receive the higher up your post is moved and the more it is shown on the site. These are fantastic places to get instant targeted traffic because people will naturally come over and take a look at your site after reading your post on a social book marketing site.

Also if people are interested in something you have shared or said they will also tell other people about it and this is one of the easiest ways. The thing to do here is to make sure that your post is key word rich so that you will also rank high if someone searches the site for that key word.

These are four ways that I use to drive traffic to my blog and of course there are many more so focus on discovering which four or five work for you and stick to them.

If you're running a blog, articles are usually the only thing that will generate traffic to it.

those were useful information, but I disregard article submission, you can replace it with creating a lens on squidoo and hubpages.. for me they are better and less work to be done and can be published instantly.

yeah useful information no doubt. people having blogs always struggle for this kind of tips to get traffic to their blogs.

Regular updates with a unique and interesting article is really your bullet before pulling that trigger.

These methods are already known to me and I get lot of traffic to my website.

Aside from providing quality content for your blog, adding relevant images on it and optimize them with appropriate keywords is also effective to get traffic from google image result.

You forgot search engines (google) this is the only method that will bring you targetted trafic and thus money.

Regular updates and stuff that matters will make people to come and return too. To build a relation one needs repeat visitors.

Social networks in general aren't a great way to get traffic. Most of the people in the blogosphere can't be bothered to update their own blogs. They surely aren't going to be reading yours.

In my opinion, the best readers are people that need information. Target the long tail and update your blog regularly. Submit your feed to rss directories. Manage your comments and reward your readers with do follow. Another way to get traffic is to exchange blogrolls with related blogs. Also add your feed to wtf and other forums that you belong to.

IT belongs from what marketing strategy you choose. You can write about similar thing in blog and in social network. You can join various similar group and inform them about your new posts with a part of it and so on

The methods on how to increase website traffic are a dime a dozen. You can find them anywhere within the boundaries of the internet. But the sad truth is, not all of them work. Some methods are often a marketing ploy that aims to squeeze some money out of you. This is why it is important to be extra critical about anything and everything that you get online.

None of them worked for me as good as writing good content which is indexed by google.

I think most of those things are already known but I will be very helpful for newbies. this are fundamental elements If you want to be successful.....

True indeed, this are basics of SEO in promoting your websites.
But still it will help for the new ones in this field.

I would like to add one for my blogs the biggest help has been video promotion not only do my readers like it, but I also get a lot of exposure from you tube, daily motion, and other popular video websites.

Great information to those whom are new to generating traffic. I'm sure that it will help many people in getting their site off the ground.

I have come to say this a lot lately but dofollow blog commenting is such a great way to generate traffic and since I have done so, traffic has increased majorly but it is hard work and takes some time and of course patience too.

I don't know much about podcast but i am surely says that social networking sites are generate more traffic to your site. My site most of traffic comes from only social networking sites only.

I am trying these methods for generating traffic for my site.

Making a lens on Squidoo and is time efficient, and you could link it easily to your blog. Shouting your latest blog post on your status in Facebook is also a good way, as long as you have established a solid and massive network of friends there.

excellent and so is how the subject was developped. I like some of the comments too though I would prefer we all stay on the suject in order add value to the subject.

Social bookmarking sites is one of my favorite, if almost guilty pleasures. I have been able to generate mass traffic by networking with multiple lists of friends across my various social media networks, and most importantly, my friends friends. THe insurgence in traffic to my blog was exponential.

Be diligent and take the time to research for your niche so that you find some relevant blogs for your comments.
It makes all the difference.

It has been said before but the best way to bring in traffic is Content, content and content.

The more article you have on your blog the more ways people can find you.

I do believe forum participation is another great way, it brings you in a small burst of traffic, SEO is the way to go for long term consistent traffic.
