Thread: What is the Best WP Plugin to Restrict Comment Spam?

Any suggestions on other Wordpress Plugins to restrict comment spam?

I'm currently using the Did You Pass Math? Wordpress Plugin to limit comment spam. It was working well at first, but now I'm getting hundreds of spam comments. :brooding:

That's the best plugin I guess that can do that work.

Akismet + Recaptcha

I have Akismet on one site and it moves a lot of legit comments to the spam box. If I don't check after a couple of weeks, Akismet deletes the comments. Any solution to this?

Hi,

I didn't know Akismet did that I never check I just hit del all Damm now I better start looking. Know wonder I am not get the comment I am hoping for.

I was using Akismet and it was doing a great job untill I used "IntenseDebate" now, it handles everything related to comments.

I've installed "IntenseDebate" but the comment import still is in progress. Let's see what it does?

Akismet work only with API... The best without captcha and invisible is WP spam free

Akismet works well but it zaps too many comments and automatically deletes them. The Akismet version I'm using is a year or more old. Perhaps it has improved?

Akismet works fine just make sure its the latest version

But as read in some article that best captcha is this what are created myself for one blog at that's all. Maybe it is good decision to invest, because noone knows your protection code

Hey I have Akismet. And man o man it is saving me . You just need its API key. Just get registered in wordpress.com. Then enable it.

I installed WP spam free.

It has a Blocked Comment Logging Mode which is a temporary diagnostic mode that logs blocked comment submissions for 3 days, then turns off automatically.

Lets see how it works?

I have tried many plugins however the spam did not die.

Finally I found BadBehaviour for Wordpress and it made things easy. I only get a couple of spam comments in a week now.

You should give it a try.

Akismet is the best, so far. Stops all the spam and also verifies comments via API calls. Pretty neat. I say.

The WP spam free is working well so far. It blocks bots using cookies and javascript.

Akismet deletes a lot of legitimate comments. The version I have installed on another blog is a couple of years old? Any way to stop Akismet from deleting comments in the spam bozx after 2 weeks?

You can use spam-stopper, he ask for questions, so there is no need to use captcha.
Akismet mark it as spam and you database becoming larger and larger, with spam stopper there is no spam messages in your database at all

The WP spam free right on the manual. 100% of my problem was spam bots which WP spam free eliminated.

However, WP spam free doesn't eliminate manual spam.

In my opinion if you want to be sure for your comment, you need turn on comment moderating

I turned moderating. I'm hoping to generate more interest in leaving comments.

I wondering if there's a good plugin to filter the comments for spam.

i get my work done by akismnet that is really good for me.

YEs of course I was very hurry

I said that i read about captcha's, and there was opinion that best captcha is that which is developed by yourself or for few web project (which isn't spread in internet very much) Because there wasn't any robots which understand it

Akismet is the best, hands down.

WP spam free blocks the bots and no need for a captcha.

I absolutely agree with this myself having a blog for a few years now. I tried plugins but they didn't always do the job so my husband and I moderated the comments and trusted our own judgement and it has worked ever since. Another good idea is to have a page dedicated to your comments policy so there is no excuse just in case you get any bad emails regarding the issue, you can point them to your policy

I use akismet, for a long time and it worked so geed for me that I was not looking something else.

Much better if you'll use Akismet and recaptcha then turn on moderation. In this way you can get rid of spammers though not totally. LOL.
Most blog owners are using those applications. Sometimes if the comment had been filtered by Akismet they still reviewed the comments and allowed those who have legitimate and useful comments.

Oh this offer worth to listen and use it

+1 for Akismet. Ill go from like 1,000 comments to 2 when I apply that plugin.

Thanks. I think I will give Akismet a try to reduce comment spam. It is giving me a headache as I get hundreds of spam comments.

Make use of Akismet.. Works very well for me.. No spammer can get pass my blog..

Yes.

If you go to the configuration options for Akismet, there is an option there that says:

Automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month.

Uncheck the box and that should prevent Akismet from deleting the comments they have labeled spam.

I've found that BadBehavior works for me. I was getting a lot of spam from Russia but since I installed it, I only get a couple now and then.

its my admin doing best, I also visit my site regularly to check everything

WP spam free Plus Akismet plugins when combined given an excellent protection against SPAM.

I Thought wordpress automatically came with a plugin by default for spam?
