Post How Blogs can help a teacher?

I like blogs and it’s my passion to write it on, I was wondering how a blog can help the teachers?

I think teachers can use blogs as their lessons plans. They can schedule their blogs on time intervals. They can set an amount of entries to make available on blogs per week. If they do, they can have topics before hand, they can do editing before the topics get Live. They can teach many topics to their students, students can do interaction with their comments, as we bloggers read or follows others blogs.

If you guys have any great ideas please do share, I think we can use blog as learning and teaching tools. What do you think; do a blogs can be used as a Mentoring kind of thing?

I don't see why not, apart from it's a purely visual medium and contemporary teaching isn't quite like that. It's also difficult enough to get some pupils motivated enough to do their work in the classroom, let alone in their own time online.

There's no reason why it wouldn't be an effective compliment to teaching more able/motivated pupils.

I have read where teachers required students to keep a daily online blog journal and write each day. The students were all struggling with writing and the improvements at the end of the year were astronomical.

I think a blog with a personal post made on it once a while can humanize you more as a teacher. Most kids seem to think teachers are just evil old people who make them do things they don't want to do. If they realize that you're a person just like them you might be able to connect better.

There's always YouTube videos of everything, you can embed those for teaching topics that require a visual aid. A podcast may even fit the bill depending on subject matter.

Just like what I have said on the other forum, getting some tips and tutorials about your subject can be your first step to serve as a good reference for your readers or visitors.

Offering extra credit for *meaningful and thoughtful* comments on a blog that is integrated into the course would be an excellent way to encourage students to extend their learning experience outside of the classroom AND improve computer literacy. Students who do not have home computers will end up spending more time at the library.

It's a good idea, and as long as it is sanctioned by the school and properly explained to the parents, I think it would be beneficial.

it's not a bad idea, some students may come to your blog, ask questions, say hi just don't spend too much time writing too many non-sense articles just the important stuff.

That is a great way to use a blog to motivate students. That would surely get me doing my assignments..Although that could just be me because I love to read and write. But definitely some sort of incentives on commenting would be a big boost as stated above in my opinion.
