Thread: Anyone have a child

Who blogs? My son wanted to start doing something online, he is 10 and I figured either a forum or better yet a blog to get him started. I had a domain that's aged a bit, already indexed in google even though it doesn't really have many back links.

Well I set it up for him last night, threw in a free theme and let him start playing around with the software.

He is pretty excited, he is good with computers but this will be his first true experience on web based platforms besides gaming, youtube, email, video etc.

I plan on showing him how to manage his domain/domains, submit to directories and the like, ftp, install scripts and more. Perfect time for him to get started.

His first blog experience, it should be fun to watch what he posts

he weighs a lot so it really hurts when he sits on my foot.

Appreciate him for whatever he is doing and encourage him to do more better and better. I am sure when he reaches at our ages he will be more expert than us

Exactly, he already knows more about computers than I did when I was in high school and he can type faster than most adults!

Someday I'll have my own child someday.

And the 12/13 year old kids I've been working with today struggle to change the font size in MS Word.

Oh dear... the British education system strikes again!

He's had his own computer since he was three, he knows a decent amount, the only problem is he is still 'unsure' of himself in ways.

My uni tried to get us (by us I mean my course at uni - probably was for other courses too, just at different times) to all go do a few classes about how to use office programs (word, excel, powerpoint and access were the ones they wanted to "teach the basics" of to us). I was just like "I'm a 4th year honours student studying a computing based course. Do you really think I don't know how to use these programs already?" A few days later they sent an email round telling us they were now changed to be optional classes :blah:

Oh and I think it's a great idea for kids to grow up using the internet like that. Although I don't think I would have been interested in making a blog at 10 if your son is then good on him.
Think I must have been about 14 before I started getting into the internet more - blogs, forums, social networking, etc. Before that it was usually just games I used it for (flash games).

Wow... I think his intelligent and a fast learner. It's a good feeling seeing your son doing like your work.. Like someday he'll gonna be a professional one. I find his blog nice at his age. I think he'll gonna be better than you grim, in the next generation Who knows..

lol, just letting him play with word press for now.
I will eventually do some promotion, backlinks for him, etc.
Possibly in the future setup a forum for him, or let him help doing it, etc.

Good idea Grim. This way you can keep an eye on what he's up to too.

In all seriousness though it's sensible to be shown the benefits (and possible dangers) of the net by someone who knows their way around it.

My cute daughter is 9 months old and I will teach her blogging when she grows up. Will certainly follow your child's blog.

Thats great its a good start for him. I went there and see hes already blazing away on the posts.
