I am relatively new to the webmaster game, but I have a curious question.
Is a blogger that does not actually own the domain that their blog is on, would you consider them a true webmaster?
For example, someone using blogger or wordpress

Well, that depends what you consider a webmaster to be.
Personally, I don't consider about 3/4 of the people on webmaster forums to be webmasters. A webmaster to me is a lot like a web designer, but controlling their own websites instead of making sites for others.
So in that sense, a blogger is not a webmaster.
But even if you take a webmaster to mean someone who aims to make money online, then a blogger is not always a webmaster. Lots of people own blogs and write on them who don't care about making money from them or anything like that.
It depends on the blogger. As ts mentioned, someone might write in their blog as a side-project but don't really have any other sites and are not trying to make money.
I, like other people, own blogs and various other web sites. I also sell different online services. I consider myself to be a webmaster and blogging is part of it.
Vectro Web Hosting - Web hosting with solid tech support.
x Proxy Host - Affordable PHP proxy hosting with proxy-specific features.
Webmaster is someone who runs a website, a website and a blog are alike in so many ways, you can be a true webmaster, with a blogspot/wordpress domain after all you are running a website.. however with a piczo or some kiddy site your not.
Look at google, the number one result for the keyword "make money online" is actually a blogspot blog.

Perhaps not, if a free blogger or wordpress blog is as far as they have got. Anyone can sign up for a blog so i would not consider those types to be webmasters. However, a good number of bloggers will have other websites they have created. Most webmasters use free blogs as marketing tools.

Hi,
To me a website is anything that is online. Some good and some bad. Some make money some don't. Some people just have fun.
So I would say yes. If you reduce it down isn't it 1 and 0 also?

Absolutely...being a webmaster isn't about knowing coding, or anything very technical. It's the ability and willingness to learn new ways to promote a website/product whether via paid options or free.
Well..in my opinion a webmaster is a true blogger but it is not necessary that all bloggers are true webmaster.
I dont think so. I have created a blog and have set up an ecommerce website using EKMpowershop and dont consider myself to be a webmaster as im no expert.

Kinda interesting poll...voted NO (just wanted to vote no, not the rest of the sentence lol)
and where is the option ``I am a Webmaster and I resent that question``
For me a webmaster is someone who manages web site(s).
A blogmaster is is someone who manages blogs(s).
Both take care of the `what happenes behind the scenes`` (the coding, SEO tc)..
A blogger is a blogger!
Definitely yes!
Here's the meaning of webmaster from wiki:
So basically, anyone who runs and maintain a site, can it be a blog or a regular site, is a webmaster.A webmaster (portmanteau of web and postmaster), also called a web architect, web developer, site author, website administrator, or (informally) webmeister, sometimes heard in tongue-in-cheek feminine form web mistress, is a person responsible for maintaining a website(s).
Absolutely! Bloggers are definitely webmasters. After all, they're responsible for designing and maintaining their site. Plus, they also have to promote the heck out of it. Running a successful blog can be alot of work; it's much tougher than just typing out a few random thoughts!!

Depends on what kind of blogger in my opinion. If they're hosted like on blogger or WP.com not so much. Self hosted: Yes as they're responsible for upkeep, security, and all the junk.![]()
I would say everybody who has setup his own website on his rented webspace is a webmaster, it doesn't matter if it is wordpress or a self made php site. Also you can create regular sites with wordpress. For me the question here is more what is a blogger.:smartass:
A webmaster is a person responsible for maintaining a website. They are experts in html and can manage alll the aspects of web opeartions.
I am not sure about this.
Some may write for fun/express themselves and they don't care about SEO, landing pages or visitor amount.
In contrast, some know technology clearly. They create a blog to share their knowledge, express their views and at the same time, become a webmaster then they can control their blog perfectly.
if you host your own site on your own domain than you are a webmaster, if you run a blogger or wp hosted blog then your a blogger -- not better or worse just different.
S
May be and may be not. Well I think a webmaster is one who has command on all or at least some basic website programming languages like HTML, DHTML, XHTML, XML, JavaScript, PHP, ASP. He must know at least basic theory of internet marketing as well.

A true webmaster should know the codings that makes the website. A blogger only makes contents by writing but webmaster designs.. maintains.. the whole website. Webmaster will always go back to the codings but blogger only goes back to the blog posts .. and only to update it.
The purpose blog was invented was to allow anyone that has no skill on web designing to create an online presence on the internet to share thoughts and knowledge.
Anyone can be blogger but not everyone can be Webmaster but every Webmaster can be Blogger, if they want to.
Just my thoughts, I voted for "Not Sure, Wouldn't Know!" :P

An old thread, but hey.
As some of you know I'm an avid blogger, which involves creating what I'd consider to be quality web content on a regular basis.
Is that not the epitome of webmastery?
well it all depend on the blogger and the content of the Blog. If the content of the blog is good that surely he can became the web master.
Yes, bloggers are webmasters.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webmaster
Bloggers maintain their blogs, they sometimes design their blogs the way they want, they generate content and revise it, they reply to user comments and they also examine traffic.A webmaster, also called a web architect, web developer, site author, website administrator, or webmistress for females, is a person responsible for maintaining one or many websites. The duties of the webmaster may include ensuring that the web servers, hardware and software are operating accurately, designing the website, generating and revising web pages, replying to user comments, and examining traffic through the site.
Not all bloggers are web designers or web programmers but i believe bloggers are webmasters. they manipulate website offpage and they earn money from it![]()
