google says pr is not importantant for ranking. Why people want to have higher pr ?

Higher PR to me means that my sites and links are more marketable.
That's about it really.

I think it reveals how famous your website, because PR comes from incoming links. I found large community-based website (including forums) has high PRs. So it might also means that the kind of website that have visitors coming back receives high PR. How does Google knows that? It knows because there are always new page being created and old page being updated.

That used to be how it worked, but not anymore. I think they just draw the numbers out of a hat now. Just look at Digital Point - gazillions of backlinks, but now only a PR4. Fond as I am of WTF it too is a PR4, but it's miles behind DP in terms of backlinks and notoriety. I have blogs with only a dozen backlinks showing on Google, which are also PR4.

PR just ain't what it used to be. Google are making it personal.

Higher PR show back links of your site and also traffic. it is a market good will of your site that show for every person.

For example I want to have a high PR because I can write more sponsored article on my blog and earn more money.

Well, PR is also important in able us to know the quality of the site. I considered it also score of your site given by Google.

high PR means age, backlinks, net presence and a bit of recognition from Google.

What is PR?
It is the importance of a website in the eyes of Google.

There are two types of PRs,

Toolbar PR.
Actual PR

Toolbar PR is the one which you see in your google Tool bar when a sites loads. Sadly this PR is based on google data which is many months old.
The real PR is the PR which only google knows and they DO NOT disclose this information.
The importance of Actual PR is highly disputed among experienced SEOs. Some think it is important and some think it is not.
I have seen sites with Toolbar PR 0 ranking higher than sites having better PRs so in my opinion PR is just rubbish.

It's a historical thing, means nothing now... just people don't forget..

Its also important to remember that Google is BIG, but not the end all be all of past present and future. PR is a good tool to tell you if people are actually accessing your site, not just seeing a link to it.

People likes high PR because it is more marketable and they can gain more money from it ..At the same time the value of a site also increases as well

Maybe because PR is the measurement of a site's reputation.

It is important before but I am not sure sure about it these days.

PR - is the value of a website that google give to a site. The higher the PR of a site the higher authority it can get.

PR is very important in terms of ads firms. If you are trying to join a new ads network, they will check your current PR and Alexa rank. It is the only way to estimate the potential of a website before they start to get live traffic details of your website.
