    Default Cleaning up Blog Comments

Just wondering if there is an easy way to clean up blog comments in wordpress? I go thru around 200-400 comments a day, keep some and delete the rest but now the blog comment posts look messy and most of the good posts are all at the beginning.

Just need a nice quick way of getting rid of comments without going thru them 1 bye 1. I didnt realise there were so many double comments etc.

    Thanks

Are you using Askimet? This will help cleanup a lot of those spam comments without you even having to punch a button (once it's setup of course!).

Wordpress is usually quite good for weeding out the spam comments.

Akismet is pretty good, I mistakenly though it was free, it's not, for commercial sites (includes any site with a little bit of adsense even), you have to pay a $5 p/m license per blog, or $50 p/m for all your sites.

The odd thing is though I never realised, until I had a support issue and I got a response back saying, "I don't see an invoice under your name, despite the fact that some of your wbesite have advertising on them".

So that may be a factor, I've had issues with akismet blocking my own comments, and no I don't spam. I tested by trying to comment on my own site, and get the white page of death.

Comments can be a real pain. I've been flooded with all sorts of spammy comments lately one of my gardening blogs. I was thinking about trying to find a wordpress plugin that filtered out spam because it takes me too long to go through these comments. Why does my blog attract so much spam? I want to attract real people who add value? It seems to only happen with one of my blogs wthat focuses specifically on flowers and plants.

I have to add though, I don't like akisment all that much because I still have to manually approve the other posts, and it isn't foolproof as I've noticed some spam still passing through.

I think a better solution is to make people comment using their facebook/twitter/linkedin id, there is a plugin out there (can't tell the name off the top of my head),

most people who use the web these days have one of these id, it keeps spam down, and makes people contrubute useful content because their face will be next to their posts and possibly their full name too. So it removes the anonymity aspect.

If you compare facebook comments vs youtube commenting you can grasp fully the difference anonymity does to people.

If you are using cPanel control panel for your wordpress blog then you can easily delete blog comments. For this you need to follow below steps.

log in cPanel >> select phpMyAdmin >> once page load >> select wp_comments table (usually left side of the page ) >> click on empty button.

Cleaning all blog comments using Phpmyadmin is very easy. You can go through the following simple steps:
    1. First, log into your cPanel

    2. Click on phpMyAdmin, it will open in a new window

    3. Once the page loads properly, on the left side of the page, you need to select the database. There could be multiple databases, so make sure you choose the right one.
      For Ex: abc_wrdp1

    4. Now, select the wp_comments on the left panel. Make sure you click on wp-comments and not the wp_commentmeta

    5. Now, click on the "Empty" tab on the upper side of the page.

    6. It will show the following message:

Do you really want to :
      TRUNCATE TABLE 'wp_comments'

    7. Click OK to delete all the comments.

That's it! Now you can confirm it by logging in to your wp-admin.
