Thread: WordPress Theme Directory

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever added a theme to the WordPress Theme Repository before and had any degree of success.

I'm planing on releasing 2 or 3 of my premium WordPress themes (minus a few key features of course) in order to

1. Receive backlinks from the themes footer
2. Gain exposure for my work
3. Hopefully if people like it, they will purchase the 'full featured' version

Is this at all worth it, or am I simply better off selling on ThemeForest or something?

Can we create a blog in wordpress to add adsense in this blog. Please let me know.

footer backlinks dont ususally carry much weight, however if your theme is installed by thousands of blogs then it can be worth it.

The problem is though that wordpress.org has banned designers from use seo anchors in the footer links, they only allow author names in the blog signatures.. so that drastically reduced the power of the links.

And the other wordpress theme directories don't really have as much power as wordpress.org so the crowdsourcing isn't as effective.

If you have a free theme you want to give away then great. But I wouldn't design a theme just for this purpose.

Wow, I never knew you cant put a link to your site in the footer anymore :S Or are you just saying that you can't link stuff?

What about the premium Theme sites such as Theme Forest and the like?

I have already added two themes to the WP-Themes-Directory. I think it is a good way to create some backlinks and to get some visitors to the linked site.

use a better theme for a better working of your website.

He means if you add, you cannot submit to wordpress.org. The other theme directories are okay with that.

I think you can put a link in the footer. However, you can't use SEO anchor text. You have to put your name or the name of your website. For example, you can't link to "Free WordPress Themes" which is an obvious SEO link but you can use your name or the name of your website.

Here is some information from WordPress about theme submission. It's not great. You may have to use the links on the page to get more info.
