Thread: Quantity or Quantity

Hi,

I have been working on http://yourtvsite.com/. The question that I have is about classic TV shows. Some were on TV for years with a lot of episodes.

My question is this. Would you add all of the episodes of one show and have it done or would you add a few episodes of a bunch of different TV show?

I am concerned that when I open the site to the public if you only see a few episodes of a tv show you won't come back thinking that the site don't have a lot on your favorite tv show.

My other way of thinking is if I take the time to put all 634 episodes "Gunsmoke" & 226 episodes of "Have Gun Will Travel" That is 860 post right there.

Because you never get a second chance to make a first impression. What would you do?

Are you posting the videos (or links to videos) or are you listing the title of the episode and a description of the episode?

Personally, I'd rather seem different shows and then expand the episode listings. This way you can make use of email marketing and inform users when new items are added. If you have a subscribe type form on the individual show too, you can announce specifically to those people that are interested in the particular show.

A good start is 5-10 items in a category, and then continue to expand (provided your expansion plans are not based over 1 year time).

I am posting the videos along with the title of the episode and a description of the episode. All done by hand.

Site will have a hulu appeal/look.

In that case I'd definitely run a few different shows in different categories and then add more down the road. If you overpopulate a single category (Gunsmoke for example), then the only traffic would be people looking for Gunsmoke. By spreading out the listings you can then use press releases to your advantage and generate new inflow of traffic at each "launch" of new episodes. This will also help with SEO as you'll have some categories which will gain reputation over time rather than having a sudden inflow of 800+ pages. Information spread out over time, and updated frequently, will result more favorably with Google and other search engines.

Well, my opinion would be quantity with quality. Its obvious that people would look for different shows. So, having variety will fetch more traffic to your site.

Both matters the same things.........

Quality reigns supreme all the time. Don't sacrifice quality for quantity, please! If I only see 2 episodes of this, 2 episodes of that, 1 episode of this, it makes it even more frustrating.

My ideology on this topic would be to have all of the episodes uploaded. I hate when I go onto a site and it only has just 1 or 2 seasons of a show, even though I may not actually watch every single episode, I still like to be given the option, if I decided, to watch every single episode. What if someone who is not familiar with the show, does not even know that there were 5 seasons of a particular. By providing the site visitor with all 5 seasons you are letting them know that all of them are present and that they do not need to look elsewhere online in order to watch the entire show from beginning to end.

This is actually a service you are providing site visitors and they will appreciate quantity, another word for quantity is thoroughness, your site will have a thoroughness to it and serve as an online resource.

Also the more videos you have on your site, the longer site visitors will remain on your website, improving your time on site and hopefully lowering your bounce rate.

Seems like a huge undertaking but don't let the amount of work that it requires to be daunting to you, you are most certainly doing the right thing by providing your site visitors with all of the episodes that they may want to see.

Both are good, quantity makes your blog uptodate and also images and content appear on Google regularly. I prefer quantity a bit more though.

Adding the variety of shows should draw attention to the options you will have in the future (provided you follow through). I would prefer having the wider variety of shows and then build out more of each show later. IMHO.

I am doing a mix at this time adding as many different shows as I can. Some shows i only added one season that way I can up date them at a later time.

I have never worked so hard on a site in my life.

Agreeing with the other posters. Quality with quantity matters, I like the Hulu model, have a few episodes of each series and add/remove on a weekly or bi-weekly basis to keep people coming back. Best of luck with your new endeavor!

Both Quality and Quantity is important for the SEO.The PR of the site is dependent on the Quality of the contents of the site.So, we can have higher PR by adding the Title, Meta tag, key words, Header etc in the content of the site.

Both should be at prior, as to stay active in search engines results you need to keep your site/blog up-to-date and in order to increase your site PR and authority you need to update your site with unique and quality contents. Hence, you should go for both Quality with Quantity.

I would like to post all episodes to attract returning visitors

I'd say begin with quantity--a variety of different shows. Then as your site gains popularity, work on building up more of the same.

I would like to post 1 episode periodically and have forum or chat room for fans of that tv show to chat and share their thought

If you want best result will be follow quality otherwise quantity.

That is the main thing that you may not get second time to impress. At first add as much tv shows as you can and then just keep them updating with he episodes then they will turn to u again and again.

It would be ideal to upload several episodes of different programs first. You will need this to attract different viewers for this different programs. Think about it -if you only upload 1 program then you will only attract a small portion of viewers.

I always give the members incentives to give quality posts. Quantity will come once the quality improves.
