YaY, another Linux fan I assume?
Linux is all I run on my personal computers. And yes Ubuntu is very popular at the moment. And for the most part I think it deserves it. Maybe I'm just easily impressed but they have really impressed me with almost every release. They are trying to make Linux bone head simple and I commend them for that for the most part.
I currently use Ubuntu on my Desktop and Debian on my file server. I have a laptop that I use mainly for testing distros (distributions of Linux) that currently has a version of Wolvix on it.
I stay away from ubuntu. I'm a die hard RedHat/CentOS fan. Been using RH since 1995.

I love CentOS for my webservers at least![]()
If you don't mind explaining this, why are you die hard RH fan? I've not looked into RH since around 8.0. I've just never really liked RMP bases distros, a personal preference I guess, because I started with Debian 2.2 back in 2000 and got used to that packaging system. I guess I need to try it for my self but is RH better than it used to be?

Kubuntu here![]()

Knowledge is for those who believe that they can do well!
Personal preference. I learned on slackware and linux from scratch, they took too much time to use especially when you manage a lot of systems. I've used debian off and on, but hated the whole dselect and dpkg system. Tried Mandrake back in the day when was first based off RH, it was ok it had the first GUI installer. Used Gentoo for a while, but the whole compile from source was just as bad as slackware and linux from scratch. Tried Ubuntu, Kubuntu and a few other variations, and just didn't like them.
From all the complaints that people have about RPM dependencies, I've had very few problems. And now that most RH based distros use a Yum Repository it makes it simple to automatically resolve dependencies.
Also, since all businesses I've worked or consulted for (which is a lot) want a company behind the distro they have, they all went with RH. So when using my own systems I'd rather use a RH based system as well. There's nothing worse that jumping from RH to a debian or ubuntu system which puts files in strange places.
Honestly, if I was forced not to use RH, I'd switch back to FreeBSD or BSDi which is what I learned on. I also learned on AIX and SGI's Irix, but wouldn't waste my time on those unixes now. I also did quite a bit of work on SCO, but they deserve to die in hell for the crap they've pulled. They will never get one more cent from me, I'd switch to Windows before switching to SCO.

My hosting company LogicWeb has used linux for the shared servers for 4 years. Linux is very stable, secure (once you do your tweaking) and generally, free. We use Centos 5 at this time. We also offer other flavors (Ubuntu Server, Redhat EL, Fedora, Windows 2003, Debian, Gentoo).
I've tried a lot of desktop based linux servers. I see plus and minuses in various flavors like Ubuntu's interface could use a serious face lift, makeover of some sort. The font quality just got a little better in 7 but still needs a lot more advancing.
Then again, I'm using Vista 64 Ultimate for my laptop. I love it, never had a single issue and have all my drivers as needed.
I use Fedora and a mac![]()
OpenSuSE for me
Best support i've ever seen for a distrobution, and their quick on updates![]()
Ubuntu 7.10 here.
Also testing Ubuntu 8.04 alphas
I would recommend Ubuntu, it seems to recognize all drivers and is a breeze to install
