If it's not pressure sensitive, then I don't think you'll have much fun drawing with it. The main advantage of using a tablet is that you can (usually) use pressure to determine the stroke or density of your brush.

But at that price, it's worth it just to find out if it's junk or not.

I would recommend using Genius if you need a cheap one. However, the best tablets are Wacom tablets, but quite expensive. I have both, I bought a 9x11 Wacom, as I need it for advanced design sketching - I'm an industrial design student.

My classes have sketching in them, where he suggests we use a tablet, but I couldn't be bothered.

Now I'm contemplating getting into digital painting, so I decided to look into it.

    Thanks for the suggestions andrej

Cheap ones aren't worth it, IMO.
Like was already said, you want pressure sensitivity.
The best is 1024 points of pressure. That will emulate the feeling of drawing with a pencil. You can apply pressure for shading like you would with a pencil.

I think cheap tablets may not allow for pressure sensitivity. If you are intending to use the tablet for drawing, that can be a limitation.
