When I started using Ubuntu one of the features I fell in love with and now *must have* is keep window on top of others. Basically you right click on an application in the taskbar and check keep on top of other windows. This a particularly useful for instant messages; When you have browser or movie maximized, keeping an IM window on top means you can keep up with the conversation while still browsing the internet or watching the movie.
Now, that I'm teetering between using Vista or Ubuntu as my default operating system I really missed this in Vista. Vista of course doesn't have this as user option it only lets programs force always on top with no control given to the user except Windows Key + D.
A quick Google found this little goodie:
Download PowerMenu 1.5.1 - PowerMenu - Adds "Always On Top", "Minimize To Tray", "Priority" and "Transparency" sub menus to all top level system menus - Softpedia
The real nice thing about this is it doesn't need to be installed. You just expand the zip and put the files some where. If you want it to auto run on startup, add a shortcut to the startup folder on the start menu..
