I have that, it won't extract tars, I found something else, via Google.
Open ZIP files, RAR files, CAB files, 7-Zip files and more - compress and extract with Alpha ZIP. Trial was good enough for now.![]()

I have it, for some reason it won't do it, it says it doesn't support .tar files.

Currently I have 7-zip for such things, it does work![]()

i use winrar WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files
works great

I guess 7-zip just doesn't work for me for tar files then.
I couldn't fully restore my cpanel backups on a new server, it seems the tar file was corrupted, that could be why 7-zip would not open them. The other program did open them so I was able to manually restore my files.
i suspect your tar files is zipped from an older version? i believe the 7-zip is the current one. anyway i personally user winrar. now i remember it can unzip all formats.

I have no idea what cpanel makes the tar's with to be honest.![]()
Agreeing with the others, WinRAR does the trick.

Colleen did you ever get this extracted. If it's small enough email it to me, I'll extract it and repackage it as a zip. If it's too big I'll do it on my server and send you a zip download link.

Thanks, yeah I found a free trial and got it open and was able to upload the rest of my files. I kinda like the free trial program, I might buy it when it expires.
So that's how bad my one week host was (I cancelled after a week or so)... that their backups were corrupted. :rolleyes-e:
