    Default Maxtor OneTouch 4 mini

    Hi all,

i have tried posting this in other forums but of not much help. Maybe i can here.

i got a problem of not able to detect my usb 250 GB Maxtor OneTouch 4 mini external drive. The symptoms are as follow:

    1) Beeping sound and flashing light when connected. Not detected. Tried all the usb ports
    2) When my usb modem is plugged out, i am able to detect intermittently but resulted "delayed write failure" after sometime.

My computer specs are as follows:
    AMD Athlon 2600
Asus A7V600 motherboard (with usb 2.0)
Win XP SP2 (updated last year)

I have tried connecting using a self powered usb 2.0 hub and updated my VIA usb driver to 2.57

Is there any suggestion? The drive is working perfectly on other pc.

What are the chances that it might work if i buy a pci usb card? If my motherboard usb is problematic, does it mean anything asociated to usb protocol will not work even if i put pci usb card?

Really need you help. Im completely burnt out. Thanks

Have you tried uninstalling the USB drives themselves and reinstalling them?

I'd assume you already updated your drivers to the latest available?

    wow you are really fast.

uninstalling you mean the drives software? there is only a maxtor manager software installed. actually even without installing this manager, i can still detect on other pc. i havent try re-installing maxtor manager though.

the latest driver is my usb controller. my main concern now is the pci usb hub. i intend to buy one soon. i just want to know what are the chances it might work with the pci card?

USB drives/drivers can be tricky. I have had it on more than one occasion where I had to remove them and reinstall them before they would work properly with a device.

You can usually get them from the manufacturer of your motherboard

Might want to check the website of the drive to see if they have any tips

BTW I take it this drive has a separate power source correct? Not that the USB ports are not putting out enough juice.

no separate power source. but the cable comes in y-cable 1 is power+data the other is power. i have connected both.

i even use a self powered usb hub. furthermore i dont suspect it is a power issue as i dont see any "low power" warning from windows.

on other pc, i just need to use 1 connector that is the power+data cable. it is enough to power up the drive

    thanks guys for the help.

i got it working with a pci usb card. got the card at about $12usd from 3rd vendor.
