Seems to me that Microsoft could best compete with google by putting ads in windows. Not that I would like this too much, but I bet it is feasible. There is a story now about them doing this in Microsoft Works. Could ads be on the way soon?

I doubt that even Microsoft would put advertsements on a paid product. Maybe if they released a free version of windows and put advertisements on it.
Jesus, that'd be terrible. :\
Only reason I'd ever convert to mac at that point.
There are so many things Microshaft could have tried over the years!!!
I really hope their days are counted!!!
Didn't they try this a few years ago but because of pressure disabled it?

Yeah, it would suck but I'm not sure they tried it before.![]()
I would really be annoying to see ads on your OS that you paid for, but it's another thing if they offer their products like Vista for free with ads, then I might tolerate it.

That would be one way for them to offer their software for free.
Sure companies would pay big bucks and make it worth it for MS to do so.
Will mention this to Bill when I talk to him next week.

well I'm not sure it isn't happening. I know Counter-strike (or some other fps) gives you the option to view in-game ads. Billboards, soda machines...things like that. And people are choosing to have it. I'm sure following that mode there are some people who would choose an ad-filled window.

If we get ads on XP, I'd suggest the Gates family to go into hiding for a millenia (<---Not a real word) or 2.
Not in Windows itself, but they have put adds in some of their free offerings.
On Vista, they got rid of Outlook Express and replaced it with Windows Mail. There is a version for XP known as Windows Mail Live which was running ad banners in it when I tried it out a year or so ago
I doubt they will show ads in paid products but the idea someone posted above about letting people have products for free and gaining money from ad revenue is interesting. That would only work if the person is connected to the internet though so who knows.
And email clients are almost 100% guaranteed to be online when used- about the only other software with this guarantee that is commonly used is a browser
Totally agree but it would be nice if they offered a free OS for the people who cant really afford it. This seems like a fairly viable way.
Ya' really should.
That made me smile. XD
No Way They Would Do That, Because Microsoft Has Enough Money To Place Google“s Crappy Thing(Google“s BEST thing For Us
)
As a kind of related note, I have been wondering if we will ever see "Microsoft Linux" for free, and then they can port all their other software, like office, encarta, math, automatic graph layout, etc, over to linux but for a profit???
what do you think?
OMG That's very terrible,
But no problem for free version of windows
they may as well give vista as a free version it sure is not worth paying for lol

 Thats disgrace. If it is true, I would shift to Ubuntu right away....
