Red face what did I do to my desktop

I've been too embarrassed to get help for this but it's getting extremely annoying.

Yeah, so you're going to laugh, I somehow got one of my sites security alerts to work with my desktop, I did NOT do this on purpose and don't know how it ever happened.

Basically if I want to open my desktop files I have to accept a security certificate warning for one of my own sites, then it shows a log-in form for cpanel, if I don't accept the certificate and cpanel log-in then I can't view anything on my desktop.

Wow, I feel dumb now.. anyone know what's going on?

No, but the certificate is for my host nitrozone.net, it's like a backup or something which I downloaded to my desktop is locking it up.

Hmmm not fully sure I'm following.

The desktop forces you to accept the certificate before you can view anything at all on your desktop?

Perhaps the host forces you to ssl for login. Do you have the login screen or something loading on your desktop by mistake? You can set a system up for that, I just don't 100% remember off hand how as it's been awhile.

An example is I just had a member here send me some logos in pm, just a .gif file, I put it on my desktop, then I emailed my client and went to grab the .gif from the desktop to attach to the email and the stupid alert comes up, then the cpanel login prompt, it's really weird. So I wasn't even trying to open anything there, just accessing it...

I've never set anything on my desktop to log me in anywhere so it's even stranger.

Check your desktop wallpaper. Change it if necessary.
(Maybe it's pointing to the html page)

Also, check your Start Up folder: Start > All Programs > Start Up

Try accessing the desktop folder directly...

My Computer > C: Drive > Documents And Settings > USERNAME > Desktop

I have no wallpaper, just a color.

In the start up folder is RAMASST and Adobe Gamma Loader

    I tried the direct approach,
My Computer > C: Drive > Documents And Settings > USERNAME > Desktop
and nothing happened, but I think it's cause I'd already accepted the prompts in the instance above.

OK. I gotta run for now, but try rebooting your computer and try the direct approach again without logging into the prompt to get your desktop. If you can cancel out of the desktop login but still have access to your start button, then you can open My Computer from there.
If you are not prompted for the login to get into the folder, but you are prompted when trying to access icons on your actual desktop, then the problem is actually outside of the desktop space and in the startup somehow.

You can also run regedit (In the Windows folder) and drill down to...
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run

See if theres any reference to html in there.

Ok, maybe this is it, finally!

I have two files in a folder on my desktop called "backups" where I put everything that gets on the desktop, cause I like almost nothing on it.

    I have two files:
    mydomain.com Secure WebDisk.vbs
    mydomain.com Secure WebDisk

What are those? I am sure they're causing this as the domain is the one I am being prompted by... what's a vbs? what are these? weird!

vbs files are executable script files and they could be the cause.

Try deleting or renaming them and reboot.

So? Final verdict on this? Wazzzzup?

The verdict is, I went to sleep. mg: lol!

Well I am sure the files I found were it, as I had at some point downloaded some "secure desktop web panel" thing which I found in cpanel. I wanted to check it out, I guess I forgot about it and moved it to the backup folder where it was causing the problems. I am sure when I reboot, that the issue will be gone. Thanks for the help, Zap.

    No problem.

Wish I could have taken a nap too. I'm sicker than a dog right now and could really use the rest but I have too much scheduled work to do.

It was more than a nap, I've been sleeping during the day and up all night working, I've got quite the work load myself right now. I'm like the "go to vbulletin woman"
