WindowsXP To Be Obsoleted

i guess most of you know that this awesome OS will soon meet it's demise by 2010.
All support will be gradually reduced by that time.

and yet, Vista is not a great replacement with all those hardware and software incompatibilities.

petitions are pouring into microsoft to at least extend WindowsXP before a replacement for Vista is avilable.

They're already talking about the next version of Windows after Vista (currently referred to as Windows 7).
So, many will be able to jump from XP to that version, bypassing Vista alltogether.

I have no intention of upgrading past xp for the forseeable future. I'm not a hardware nut and am still running on a P4 with 1GB of ram which preforms pretty well using xp. My laptop did get a free vista upgrade but I never bothered cashing that in.

i've seen loads of cyber-cafes that still use 98. haven't seen a 95 in a long time, though

I remember when XP came out a good portion of people bitched and complained and wanted 2000pro instead.

Sooooo many people swore to continue using Windows 98.

Wonder how many of them still use it.

I guess it just evolution of the software, as much as I like XP, the time to upgrade is near.

Dell announced that they will offer XP on business machines till 2012.

Vista is turning into the "new coke" vs. "coke classic" fiasco of the 1980's

They bring out a new product thats supposed to be better but the public hates it and wants the old one back.

And then there is the whole new "cloud computing" and MS is scrambling to catch up to Google on that one. Cloud networks will kill a large part of MS revenue streams. Nobody will need an OS, or word processing or spreadsheet applications, or any software for that matter, locally on their machines anymore. That is the direction things will go.
