    Question RAM Question

RAM is supposed to fill the whole slot right?

Friend of mine bought an older Dell computer and ordered RAM for it, he got a 128MB module, which isn't even worth it IMHO but what do I know. lol.. Anyway I popped open the case this evening and there's only one available slot, when I tried to pop in the module it only took up 1/2 of the slot. I've never seen RAM installed like that before so I pulled it back out.

I think he just gave the wrong model number and got the wrong module but I wanted to double check my line of thinking.. It has to clip in on both sides to stay securely in place right?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Absolutely right Dan.

And also right that 128MB isn't even worth popping the case open for.
RAM is dirt cheap these days. Tell him to go big or go home. :P

Yes, it should fit correctly in the slots.

As you said he probably gave the wrong model number and got a wrong item.

are you sure it was a computer you were putting it into? I know toasters have slots too and it could be easy to confuse the two.

Dell computers are tricky. One model of computer can have 20+ different configurations that all take different kinds of RAM. And as others stated above, it sounds like they sent him notebook memory. There are a few Dell computers I have come across (I work in IT for a living) that have the exact same model # for both the notebook and desktop computers....
