Thread: Did you try out Firefox 3?

I just received a mail about the most software downloaded in 24 hours i.e. firefox 3

I am using it right now and in love with it.

Did you guys try it?

Loving it! So much faster, atleast it is for me.

I honestly wasn't a fan of 3. It just irritated me.

Was it easy to install? I don't want to loose all the work I have done on this one themes, addon layout and so on.

yes i did and it was great. i liked the whole setup but i hate the fact the plug ins didnt work so i went back to 2.

Already had the beta but dl'ed the new 3 today.

Does it auto-upgrade to 3 or do I need to do it myself? My FF2 is currently downloading 2.0.0.14

It auto-upgrades. I have been running FF3 for some time close to a month now and think it is excellent.

I just installed it, it looks heaps better than the old one and it loads much faster too

I already have it installed but I downloaded it earlier just to help them in their attempt.

Opera 9.5 is also awesooome !

Oly art I don't like is typing the url into the search bar how the url they guess pops up underneath and its huge area it takes up. But that's just me being picky

I love it when the favicon changes when u visit SSL secured site

I like it too... But I prefer FF. No matter what reason it is. I just love FF...

I managed to download it before the US woke up and hung all the servers

I was impressed that about 50% of my add ons were able to upgrade seamlessly.
Firebug required an uninstall but the new version was there, ready to download and install.
Snaplinks doesn't have a new version yet so I'm glad I'm not moderating so much these days as it's an essential tool for mods.

As for the address bar, I'd love to be able to customise it. I don't mind the size so much but I'd prefer to have the url large and the page name small - and the ability to change it because everyone will have their own preference.

Plugins/addons didn't work right away, but I found out what you have to do so they work, but I forgot what I did. Useless right?

That piclens thing is pretty groovy, I'm not sure how much I'll use it but there have been school projects (for my kids) where we've searched for images of the Taj Mahal and or Hilary Duff and it would be great for that.

I have a really bad experience with it, after the installation it has shutdown my whole external stuff. My mouse, keyboard, and speakers are not working anymore.

Well that's pretty strange, did you try a reinstall and cleaning your registry? Restore?

Firefox 3 so far has been great for me, aside from the occasional major crashes it has out of the blue.

I had to re-install my whole operation system, because all the external driver have shut down after I have installed Firefox 3.0.

This was caused probably because I had so many software and when I installed Firefox there were some complications between Firefox and the software.

And that's why it has probably caused to shut down all the external devices, but at least everything si working again perfectly and I'm using Firefox 3.0 again.

hehe, at last!

I haven't try it yet but hopefully will try one of this day, a friend told me that it was fast and accurate.

Yeah, and it is much more useable e.g. if you want to save an image, you can just drag it from the browser into a folder

Now the initial mad rush has died down somewhat i may go and download it.

totally support open source software, firefox is my first choice, opera is my backup. forget about IE

it sucks alot of caching prob

'Prob' not, I love FF3.

haven't tried yet but my co worker says that it's easy to use

Hi,
I tested and it worked, that's the steps you should do (Working on version 2 & 3):

Type:
about:config (no spaces)

In the address line and click enter, you'll get a small alert and next step will be to click on the "I'll be careful, I promise!"

Now on the image you'll see above you need to right click with the mouse and then New -> Boolean

Example:


Now you'll have the New Bolean Value, you should type this:
config.trim_on_minimize (again, no spaces - just as it is)

Example:


click OK, and chose TRUE.
Now initialization firefox (close it and re-open)

The result: saving tons of memory and will make the browser faster.

Noticed a small increase in speed, but my favorite feature is the Location Dropdown.
It's nice to see a list of website names come up as you type.

I thought there would have been more new features... But what could I hope since the previous version was already so nice
