lets exchange the lappy, i got xp ;-)
Vista is awesome, just you need to get used to it.![]()
Just checked the build on this system, HOLY upgrade!
4 gigs of ram, high def, Blue Ray, 2.5 dual core cpu with 6 megs of cache! 7.2k sata hard drive, it's got every available option damn near!

Build sheet claims over 5K 'which I doubt' but know it's gotta cost a pretty penny![]()
I hear Vista is good if you have a powerful computer, so, I have never run Vista I don't know what its like![]()

Good luck Grim. I have to say over all Vista's been good to me once I got used to it everything works fine. I've only BSOD'd once and that was installing ZoneAlarm which made me have to roll back to a restore point but other than that it's been rock solid.
I don't think you will mind Vista once you get used to it, I didn't like it too much at first but love it now
man the new notebook is SWEET!

can't wait to get all my shit transferred!
Trying the easy transfer program first.
You got a plasma/LCD TV? If so, go buy an HDMI cable, plugs right into the left side of the laptop and is awesome for using the computer on the TV or for watching movies

Can't figure out the finger print reader though!

You got the laptop already? The included software should have a control panel type area for the reader. I had checked out a couple of laptops with a finger print reader 1 had it's own applet in Window's control panel which was tied in by the user accounts section another was accessed via an icon in the system tray.
I can figure out the software, can't get a good reading though.
Anyone have problems with the easy transfer software from windows? I can not get it to work.
Hey Grim?
Can you use any finger? have you tried a different finger?

Nooooo....install XP!!!! =/

welcome to the dark side mwahahahaha.
Still not there, transfer attempt after transfer attempt fails on my network.
Never had such a problem.
Now backing up files to my external USB HD, just hope I didn't lose too much of my needed files.
GRIM added 110 Minutes and 0 Seconds later...
God I hate moving systems, transfer after transfer failed. Ended up corrupting a big file of mine, only 1.5 gigs of 5+ recoverable.

It doesnt work between XP and Vista. Is that possibly one of the problems?
Have it mostly set up, lost some items but I should be able to get by.
Figured out the finger print scanner, the webcam is crystal clear.
Taking some getting used to BUT it's working pretty damn good now.
I hated it for some reason , in the start . But i Dual Boot with XP
Change is what most 'hate'
vista is so good looking! but the prob is that it has way too much application that sometimes you won't ever need anyway. if you have a choice of going back to xp but still wants the vista look, go install the vista skin feature on xp (that's what i have right now, running xp with vista skin. looks pretty much like vista!)
I'd rather just stick with Vista and get used to it.
Somehow... I still prefer XP. XP is faster for me.
My charger is not working...again..they think its a MOBO problem, the hinge on the LCD doesn't keep the screen up either. Been getting HD not found errors on boot lately also so I am sending it in to them when they box gets here, hopefully they get it fixed quickly.

Had an odd issue with Vista on my laptop. Twice the computer just froze, wouldn't take any mouse or keyboard input. I had to force a shut down. I've read of this happening to others and supposedly they tracked it down to a corrupted registry entry.
So what did I do?
Backed up all my data and stayed up to 6 AM restoring the system. Then I had to remove all the crap that Acer put on here as "helpful" features.
This system 'felt' a bit slow to start but has gotten faster the more I have used it.
Does Vista 'learn' a bit better over other OS's as to what you use more often?
