    Default Router problem(s)

    Hello all,

I just bought a new wireless router DLink 524 and i intend to use it to create a small home network ( 3 computers, 1 wired and 2 wireless ).

After setting up the router ( IP class, WEP key ... ) i'm getting following message on the wireless computers after 2-3 minutes of working properly. ( "Limited or no connectivity" and if i click "Repair", the IP 169.254.x.x is assigned to the computer ).

I've tried to change the IP class, checked if there is any conflict with the MAC addresses, changed the wireless channel ...

What else do you recommend to try ? I could try setting up the IP's manually and disable the DHCP server.

Please let me know if you have any solutions.

Mention: Both wireless computer are using Windows XP ( SP2 and SP3 ).

    Thanks in advance.

Try rebooting the router and then rebooting the workstations.
It sounds like a communication issue at the router on the wireless side.

Have you definatly entered the WEP key correctly? As I know sometimes when I don't enter it correctly on my computer, it doesn't actually tell you it's wrong, it just won't let you connect.

it is best for you to use a custom IP for each of your lan computer.

    Such as:

    router ip: 172.132.2.1
    pc 1: 172.132.2.110
    pc 2: 172.132.2.111
    pc 3: 172.132.2.112

    try doing that.

That's going to cause problems. These are the private IP addresses
    10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
    172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
    192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255
    Source: Private IP Addresses
another: Private IP Addresses - Private IP Address Range

Safest to stick with the 192.168 range, your router should be on 192.168, most linksys ship with it as the default.

First of all, thank you for your answers guys.

Safest to stick with the 192.168 range...
True, my router is configured as follows:
    Router has 192.168.0.1
DHCP is allowed to assign IP from 192.168.0.100 -> 192.168.0.199

Have you definatly entered the WEP key correctly?...
Also tried without any key for wireless.

I think the problem is with the wired computer, I'm guessing that is in conflict or something, because I'm using that wireless router at work now and works fine, i even connected with 4 wireless devices ( 3 computers, 1 phone ) and worked fine.

    What could be the problem?
