Well, when we had our laptop (fiance and I), it was an Acer. I love the Acer brand to be honest. However, my second choice is HP.
Panasonic came out with one that is suppose to be real tough and good for people on the go. Its called the Toughbook.
It depends on your budget + your nature of work.
If you have good budget, you can buy SONY VAIO.
If you have heavy graphics or other work then I think DELL laptops are best.

I would always stick with one of the well known brands, Sony, Dell and HP for starters. But it depends on your budget.

I have a Compaq (HP) and love it. However, make sure you do some research on teh Internet before making a purchase. See what others are saying and make sure you can find the model number.
My first laptop was HP and I purchased it from WalMart. I learned quickly, you do not buy any computer from WalMart. There computers are made special for them and HP can not even figure out what you own. I had nothing but problems with that one.
No days, you can pick up a good laptop for under $600 that will do everything most people needs. Any major brand is worth checking out. Just make sure you get the most RAM and hard drive you can for your money.

HP all the way, not only are they the number one laptop company out their but they make some awesome stuff
I have a list on my gadgets site: http://sizlonics.com/2008/06/hp_is_on_top/

I've used many different, toshiba, acer, xplio, hp.. I like acer and also think they work the best.

I have always wanted to try a Toshiba. I hear they are good too

get a mac, it's the only brand you should even be thinking of![]()

Mines is a Dell, and I am happy with it.
My old one was some cheap one from Asda (Walmart in the UK) - it sucked!

Sony, HP and Compaq are the three brands i would choose from as far as laptops are concerned.
I've always liked Dell. I recently bought a XPS laptop and have been very happy with it!
HP has good quality. The best deal can be HP as it is good in terms of performance and provides a perfect union of functionality and style. They are generally cheap and well equipped.
I have a Dell for 3 years now...
Pros:
- Didn't had any hardware problem
Cons:
- Cheap plastic material used
I'm thinking to buy a new laptop, HP or Sony comes in mind...
No Doubt HP is the best.... Than Dell & Sony... but never Lenovo...

We have heard about a lot of brands on here. How about IBM-lenovo? They have steady computers, made to last. Arent that pretty, but very solid and durable. Thinkpad seems to be the best at IBM.
Over the last 10 years I've had a Compaq Presario, an IBM ThinkPad, a Toshiba Portege, 2 Satellites - and currently an ASUS EeePC 901 sub-notebook.
I will never ever buy another Compaq/HP as long as I live - gorgeous screens, but terrible design flaws all over the place.
If I had to buy a new laptop, it would be another IBM/Lenovo.
I'm pretty much sold on sub-notebooks though. I take my Eee PC with me nearly everywhere I go, which means I actually use it.
I have a Toshiba Satellite, and I really like it :-)
Well i also want one. I am fine with my compaq. But it is old.Let me have a new one.
I was thinking about Mac Air.
I've had the best experience with Toshiba, Sony, and Lenovo. Their support is solid and they do use solid parts in their products.

I will go with IBM/Lenovo as well. I have used a number of other brands including HP, AST and Toshiba and none come close to it in terms of reliability and service. I am a very heavy and rough user and whenever there is a problem, the machine is usually fixed on the same day. I am using a X301 and a X61 at the moment. One big issue for me is that I prefer their trackpoint over the ubiquitous touchpads.
Toshiba and Sony, never buy Acer or Dell...
I prefer you to choose Hp, sonny and dell. But 'm currently using Hp right now and I love it's features!
Dell is a happy medium to my mind
Well finance goes out the window with mine but i have a DELL XPSM1710 Gaming Laptop, top of range spec at the time, had 2 years is quite good no problems as of yet, yet battery life is sucked by its power and it gets hot!
