Smile Any Mac folks out there?

    Howdy,

I just ordered myself a used mini, got the shipping confirmation today and it should be here by Friday. I'm psyced, have been wanting to play around with OS X for quite a while aside from using a friends briefly I've never really gotten to dive into OS X.

The system looks pretty nice it's got the 1.83Ghz Dual core, the lower end of the current Mini offerings but it comes with 2 GB of RAM which is what I wanted. I really couldn't justify the hardware tax directly from Apple so buying used is a nice compromise.

The seller was really nice and made a little video of the machine booting up for me:

Anyway it's only got an 80 GB HD which is quite small so I'm probably going to keep an external permanetly attached. I also ordered a wireless keyboard and mouse from the same guy.

I've been researching the mac forums for quite a while but stepped it up after I ordered, I got lot of info. So Mac folks what's the first thing you would tell me to do with my new mac?

    Cheers,
    Dan

Some would say hug it, caress it or even name it. :stongue:

Welcome to the Mac world Dan. I'm sure you'll love it.

I just ordered a 17" macBook pro yesterday, hopefully be here in a couple of weeks.

I bumped up the Intel Core 2 Duo processor from 2.66GHz to 2.93GHz. It comes with 4gb of ram but the upgrade from 4 to 8gb (£839.99! :sshocked was a tad out of my reach.

2GB RAM is good enough to run Vista, I run Vista full speed ahead with 3GB. I won't be running many memory hogging apps, unless you count FF.

HD space is relative you can easily add an external. I'm really thinking of this puppy from New Egg: Newegg.com - LACIE Design by Neil Poulton 301303U 750GB 7200 RPM USB 2.0 Black External Hard Drive - External Hard Drives it's really nice looking + cheap + great reviews.

^You really have to look at the pics on the Egg for $90 that's one sexy external + 750GB; I won't fill that for years to come.

@Halobitt: I'm always on Apple.com drooling over systems. I have a feeling I'll be saving my pennies for an iMac not to far down the line. I also cannot believe the prices on RAM upgrades direct from Apple. It's ludicrous.

How's your mac running Big Dan?

Just got my 17" MBP delivered yesterday and it is dreamy. Quality screen with a tiny camera in there. The unibody design feels a lot more robust than previous models.

    2.93Ghz 4GB Memory 320GB HD
