Default Sick of segate hard disk drives..

Today my third Segate HDD crashed all of a sudden. This one is less than 6 months old..

I'm just sick and tired of Segate, it seems that they have become a piece of shit HDD makers. unfortunately in India where consumers are worse than dead sheep, they hardly are demanding for quality and vendors are pushing Segate because they get bigger profit margin. They all are happy because Segate offers 5 years of warranty, but give no fuck about data loss.

Since morning I'm struggling with spin right and seatools to recover important data from the crashed HDD but no clear luck so far.

    AAARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!

    Thanks, I'm feeling better...

So keep backup files of anything important. I learned that the hard way too. My 1st external died after about 2.5/3 years (fair enough, it was due to break), then my 2nd (which was a western digital) broke within the first 3 months, they are replacing it (not the files), although it wasn't much important stuff on there I still should have kept backups, would save me a lot of time/hassle.

Most HD companies won't give you protection for your files if their hardware breaks, unless you buy extra cover of course. I know some of the big makes have certain companies that if you use them to do data recovery it won't void your warranty, but IMO thats a way overpriced service.

That sucks Webby. About once a month I backup all my important stuff: Docs, Pics, and Website Backups to DVD. This way if my external goes DOA I still have a recent backup of all the important stuff.

Even I do that Dan, but what about unbacked data... my auto backup program runs once every week. Once in every month I do a full disk image back up. but no matter how you do it, there are always some bits and pieces left unbacked..

Besides, unavailability of any other option besides Segate is what pissing me off.. It seems that Segate is pushing all made in China shitty junk to Indian market and offering vendors a huge profit margin. They don't sell any other HDD brand. When I went to buy this drive, I was looking for 1TB WD, no vendor had that.. So I settled for 500 GB Segate crap. This is the third freaking Segate HDD that crashed within an year. my 10 year old WD and 7 year old Samsung drives are working just fine even to this date.

I have had better luck with Western Digital. Of my customers who come to me with failed hard drives, most had a Seagate. When I install a new hard drive in one of my customer's computers I avoid Seagate.

That's the problem mate.. I'm a fan of WD. But it's really hard to find WD around here.. All the vendors sell Segate and nothing else..

Finally bought a 640 GB WD Caviar® Green™, had to place a special order since vendor didn't have it in stock (Model: WD6400AACS).

I was able to recover all important data from Segate HDD, now it's time to bang that PoS on repair center guy's head and ask for an exchange!!

That is one of the wost thing that could ever happen to you specially if you loss most of your data and wasn't able to get a backup aside from your HDD. I also got my Seagate crushed before. And from that, I didn't buy a Seagate HDD again ever. I am using a Samsung HDD now and it works really fine for me...

Sorry to hear about your bad experience.
