It looks like a test run for a Google ISP.

From the article:

"Google has recently announced the trial run of it’s new project, fiber-to-home internet access at the speed of 1 Gb per second. Google is seeking information from interested municipalities in America about locations to build the network. It plans to serve around 50,000 to 5,00,000 people in it’s initial phase."

What would be the point when most servers can't even deliver that?

So they can claim to be bigger and better than everyone else? :O

Suppose people who download could benefit a little.

Doing multiple downloads/uploads it would be nice for, but how in the world they gonna deliver that kind of bandwidth?

That's a lot :eek: When will it be released? I see it happening in a few years, but as of now, it would be amazing and I don't know if they could ever keep it good like that. Would they even have a RoI when they deliver stuff like this? :eek:

I'd expect a 1gbps speed to cost quite a lot per month. Or they will use a limited policy (i.e. get the first XX gig with your monthly payment, then pay for every extra gig after that). But the kind of people interested in a 1gbps dl speed would be looking for an unlimited policy, or they would be a fairly large business with a network of people using the connection. Actually, it'll probably be for businesses at first, I wouldn't expect it to be in the home for a while yet.

Yeah would probably be a fairly strict ToS with regards to usage so the chance of people actually using the speeds will be low, but who knows.

They might as well call it "Google ISP for torrent users". Though, if they do provide that much bandwidth right into people's homes, I bet they'll have limits and restrictions. We all know Google has a way of banning people from things without giving a real reason.

That would make more sense, but apparently this is an in-home service.
