Default Microsoft reports 90 million Windows 7 sales

Windows 7 is the fastest-selling operating system Microsoft has ever produced. On Tuesday, CFO Peter Klein said the software superpower has sold 90 million copies of Windows 7 to date.

That's up from the 60 million license sales Microsoft had at the end of its fiscal second quarter in January. Speaking at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom conference in San Francisco, Klein said those sales are expected to pick up further with increased IT spending.
"There will be an enterprise refresh cycle," he said. "It's not precisely certain when that will happen and how fast it will happen. But as we've been saying, specifically for the last several quarters, we expect it to happen this calendar year and go into next calendar year.
"And that will be a really good thing. That'll be a good catalyst for growth for our PC business."
Klein also confirmed that Microsoft will be offering an Office 2010 Technology Guarantee Program. That promotion leaked last month when Microsoft accidentally posted, and then pulled, the program information online.
Under the program, Office vendors can resell Office 2007 licenses and offer upgrades when Office 2010 is released in June. Klein said that revenue will be deferred from Microsoft's third-quarter FY2010 earnings report.

It's good to know this stuff since 7 is new. It gives perspective on where it could end up in the future. One thing though, if you found this information on another site, please paste a link to where it came from.

    Hi,
