I want to get a new laptop next month, but I don't know whether to go for one with Windows 7 or just any one and install the new version of Ubuntu... is Windows 7 really worthwhile?

I'm a windows 7 user and so far my system is working well, the OS is good, its user friendly just like all the Windows operating systems. I recommend Windows 7 because aside of being user friendly its compatibility towards other PC's is factor too.
right now im using windows 7 and i like xp better, it seems faster and easier, less flashy stuff, sorry i havent used linux, ive heard great things about it tho, give it a shot and report back please
Make it a dual-boot. Remember that Linux is a completely different world than Windows.
Vectro Web Hosting - Web hosting with solid tech support.
x Proxy Host - Affordable PHP proxy hosting with proxy-specific features.
I have to agree with dual boot being a good way to go. I love windows 7-it fixed all the problems that Vista had. I have no stability issues, and it isn't a resource greedy OS. But you might find that there are things you like from Linux so a dual system will give you the best of both worlds.
So far I'm liking windows 7 myself
If you are a programmer, then Linux is for you. Otherwise windows 7 will fit!
Windows and Linux are completely different in their interface. Linux is an open source OS and is free. If you are a programmer then I suggest Linux. otherwise I prefer Windows.
Hi! From my own experience I can say that Windows 7 is progressive and very user-friendly! I like it.
Ubuntu offers a more intuitive UI as compared to other Linux distributions.” << how is that, considering most Linux distributions are using the same desktop environment.
Now if you were saying that Ubuntu includes some nice tweaks that other Linux distributions do not include then that would be true, but otherwise the user interface is practically the same except for styles and themes which are easy for any and all of them to update. If you are used to Windows, then anything that doesn’t look, act, smell and feel like Windows is going to be “difficult”. I use Windows and Linux and honestly I prefer the Linux desktop over Windows.. it is just more comfortable.
Windows 7 edges over Ubuntu for this, as there are a number of compatible hardware devices” << This is due to no fault of Ubuntu. If the vendors made drivers for their devices available for Linux then this would not be an issue. Linux has done a darn good job of hardware compatibility considering device driver developers aren’t any help. Windows 7 is proprietary, allowing the vendor to abuse it’s users in many ways. Ubuntu is free, preventing abuse from anyone and allowing improvements targeted on the user’s interests, not the vendor’s.

I think windows 7 is better to use then linux
Hi) as i know linux always use programmers, my friends like it, coz as you know in it user can do much, i mean change settings, Windows doesn't provide this opportunity, so if you understand much in computers choose ubuntu, if you're just a user choose W7.
well i prefer windows 7. Its good
I currently dual boot ubuntu and win 7, but I normally boot on windows...
I will say to use windows 7 as its easy to use and i am also using it.
Win 7 is really good. You should try this.
I using Windows 7 .i like it ,it is very easy to use
Both Windows 7 and Ubuntu are good, and both have their pros and cons. I'd definitely recommend Windows 7, but if you feel fancy and like to learn new things setting up Ubuntu in a virtualbox is a great way to play around with linux and learn about it.
Windows Seven is good. it has the speed of XP and also good looks better than vista.
Linux and Windows 7 both are great in their perspective. But i use windows 7 because it is complex to install some of my desirable software with ubuntu.

I switched my traffic from the others and I'm making more!!!!!
your requirements would define it. Especially if you need a software with OS specification then you'll be limited to that.
Windows 7 is the best os as for i am working from last 8 year in different Operating system .... Very user friendly
never really tried Linux although i heard is very impressive for servers
I am using currently Linux, it is good but Windows is better than linux
If you are used to using the Windows 7 I prefer you stick with it. Linux is different than in Windows. My brother is a programmer and he uses Linux, he told me that Windows 7 and XP are way much better.
