    Default Do you trust McAfee

Few days ago McAfee caused millions of computers go offline; problem was McAfee software thought of a program as virus which wasnt a virus, and that caused restart the computer over and over again.

Even McAfee website was down for about 6 hours, so people couldnt get help online.

This is not the first time this happened.

I personally think McAfee is faster then Norton. But its buggy as it seem to be from these incidence.

How about you, do you trust McAfee

I personally dont see need to pay for virus protection, when so many free and good ones out there, but this has been discussed several times, so search the forum to find many points of view!

I have only used Mcafee once and frankly i would not use it again. It really slowed the machine down and i was also hit with a nasty virus. I think it cost me approx £49 and i had to bin it 2 months into the 1 year subscription to make room for a more effective solution.

Nope. That's why we run all Linux and Mac machines at my house. No virus protection needed.

It was a good product but I personally found it to slow browsing. I don't know maybe my unit is slow too cause of large files stored.

I should hope that McAfee is safe if Bank of America offers it to online banking customers. McAfee had a blip on the screen that has shaken consumer confidence. But they are in the protection and security business. Their jobs and livelihoods depend on keeping your computing environment safe. What happened is scary but not enough to consider them untrustworthy. They regrouped rather quickly and responded appropriately to the "virus" problem. I expect that they will come back stronger than before with lessons learned under their belt.

I am using Avast from last 4 years, and I am happy with that. It gives full protection to system and also complete automatic updates.

Everyone has a preference. I have used mcafee in the past. Like others have said I actually think it slowed my system down a lot. I haven't used it since then, which has been a few years now. I don't know if I could say that I would be 100% confident with any anti-virus software. Someone actually has to find or report a virus, then they have to check it, come up with the protection or detection, test it, and update their virus database. From the time they identify one and update the software from what I've read varies considerably from one anti-virus program to another.

McAfee has had too many problems. On some machines it even kills the Internet connection until McAfee is removed. It's an odd bug that crops up sometimes.

AVG Free is a simple free program that doesn't have many bugs. Just be sure to disable daily scans if you use it or the computer will run a bit slow. Without daily scans it's actually rather un-intrusive and doesn't waste resources. It's better to just manually scan weekly or monthly on your own.

Avast is good for performing a pre-boot scan which is helpful for removing infections that are "hooked" into system files and can not be removed while Windows is running. The only issue is the pre-boot scan does not work with 64-bit versions of Windows.

Used to but not anymore... There are many stronger anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-malwarebytes that are more effective than mcafee...

Well I personally don't trust any anti virus anymore except AVG, it's free, virtually no bugs (as of yet) and does a brilliant job.
Avast, norton and macafee are just motherboard eaters :c

well I've tried them multiple times obviously and on different Pc's just to be fair
I didn't start off not liking them, they just threw so many issues at me and over time I guess about 2months per program.

For a Windows machine, it's tough to beat Microsoft Security Essentials. Free, not bloated like McAfee or Norton, and updated all the time.

Actually Symantec (Norton) leads the market, and has been holding over 60% of the market for some years now.
