    Default Control Panels

Cpanel with WHM, Plesk, Helm, Direct Admin, Virtualmin, etc.

Which control panel do you use? If other please specify. Would love to hear if you like the control panel or not. I use Cpanel with WHM, I however am considering moving to something else as the add on costs so much per server!

cPanel with WHM and quite happy with it. Sometimes, that makes all the difference.

I use plesk, hate it! I mean its easy to use and stuff but the stats that come with it SUCK and I'm a stat whore, can't get enough of them and the stats they give are too generic for me

Tried plesk once upon a time.
Happier than heck when I finally got whm.

Good host companies always get the latest version of cpanel and whm.
Sad to see so many that don't, using the first cpanel still.

DreamHost spoiled me with their custom panel, as slow as it was I liked it a lot better than cPanel.

I use WHM & cPanel; I don't like 'em, it takes a lot more steps to do simple things and more complicated than they really are. I asked the cPanel people if i can make an email address both a pop box and forward. Never got an answer; every custom panel I've used (DreamHost 1&1 and GoDaddy) all made that really easy.

I'd like to try plesk and direct admin; Anyone know any demo sites?

I had a vps account with Plesk, was my first vps account. Got rid of it after a couple of days, I hated plesk. Maybe because I was so familiar with cpanel/whm, all I know is I did not like it one bit.

If you're offering hosting I can see adding on cpanel/whm. I however do not, I'm looking to save a few bucks I'd rather spend $$$ on more ram, hd space, backups, or another server over the $30-$40 a month it costs for cpanel/whm per server!

I haven't actually tried it, but I do use forwarders and I have to go in manually with webmail to clean out the accounts I'm forwarding. So, it would seem to me that you can. Just setup a forwarder on an e-mail account and then configure your POP3 client to pick up mail from it. It should forward the mail properly but still allow POP3 access.

Well, yea you are right. It does add to monthly cost but think from a user’s perspective. I don’t think many users like any control panel other than CPanel. So, to make them happy, you should go with CPanel.

(And about the monthly cost, you can just add $0.5 more to each package and the money will return to you)
    Just my $0.2

Would it be cheaper in the long run to rent the server without cPanel and buy it yourself and put it on yourself?

    That's a possibility 'i think' mg:

Not sure about installing cpanel or anything like that, I did think about it but that's where it stopped 'the thinking stage'

My host uses cpanel/whm and I have used that set up for years.

The problem I run into is when my host upgrades to the latest versions, including especially the latest php versions.
Makes some of my scripts not work, and the host does something for me to make them work.
And older scripts, trying to upload and checking them, they do not work.

PHP upgrades can make things go screwy, that's more of the php end of things though and not cpanel. Happens on any server, control panel or not if it's upgrading php

I just upgraded my VPS's cPanel/WHM to the lastest in the release tree, I think 11.x.x.x something like that. -- It looks a lot nicer, I don't see any new features though.

I don't screw around much in WHM or cPanel only to see stats and make nesseicary changes. I wouldn't of even known to update if a customer hadn't requested it. Is their a mailing list for cPAnel updates?

I'm actually looking for a cheaper VPS solution these days. ServInt is great but when I'm only pulling 20 GBs of bandwidth per month and not using much of my HD space it seems kind of stupid to spend that extra cash. All I really need is the guarnteed RAM aside from that, I'd be okay in a shared environment.

Not sure if there is a mailing list or not, sure there must be. This update however I have found a few bugs in, nothing major but one server I reverted back to the stable release. Just upgraded it to 'release' now and see if the bugs are gone.

Bandwidth isn't everything, also remember other systems might not give you as much cpu/memory power.

If the software for creating the vps wasn't so expensive I'd love to have my dedicateds split up that way.

I know, before moving to a VPS, shared environments served my pages slow. Primarily, I'm just running vBulletin I don't see where it's eating that much CPU. I only have 4 extra products that add to DB queries on showthread.

Anywho, my VPS guarantees me 512 MB RAM and I'm hovering right around the 70% mark as far as utilization. I guess VPS is where I should be but it doesn't seem worth the $90/mo.

$90 a month! Wow for that you could go dedicated!

I know! I was looking into dedicated a while back, I remember you mentioning managemybox.com.

The problem is those plans aren't managed and even though I know my way around the Linux command line, I still like to know if I screw something up, support will fix it free of charge. ServInt's support is awesome.. If I go with a dedicated box, I either have to buy support package or pay a per instance charge. I'd probably be okay unmanaged but there is a lot about server security I don't know.

cpanel with WHM, it is quite easy to use and is probably the most popular which makes transfers from other cpanel hosts really easy for the client (do a backup of their cpanel then import it into your own system, it moves everything. Really quite impressed with how easy that is and the customer is too.

Some hosts will actually lease you cPanel for your dedicated server for a low monthly fee. For some people that might be more affordable.

We prefer and would recommend Cpanel/WHM simply because it is user friendly and has many features.
