Thread: awstats not updating

I checked awstats today only to find that none of the stats have been updating since the 17th of this month. The server has been up and analytics is reporting lots of hits. The problem is server wide and is happening with all sites on the server.

Forgive me for the vague information, but at this moment I don't really know what I should be posting up. All I know is that it worked one day and was broke the next. Nothing had changed in the setup of the server. Just tell me what information you want me to post up and I will try and dig it up.

It is an unmanaged server or I would have done. If the problem persists I will just pay a management company to go in and fix it. Wanted to get the input of some fellow webmasters before shelling out though. Wouldn't of asked if it wasn't my responsibility

Yeah it is running lxadmin. Was a little behind on updates (one version), but that is now fixed.

Sorry can't help you there -- if it was cPanel/Plesk/Ensim/Direct Admin/Webmin or Plain I would but I haven't personally worked much with lxadmin.

Not a problem. Although I thought that it is completely independant of the control panel. I am probably wrong (as usual ).

You could try this, something I do in order to just update it myself. It will provide a button you can click to update the awstats.

In FTP or whatever, browse to: /home/yourname/tmp/awstats

Look for and download awstats.yourdomain.com.conf

Open it in notepad. Search for "AllowToUpdateStatsFromBrowser" if it's set to 0 change it to 1, save and reupload, go to awstats and click update.

Sometime forcing an update of the control panel software can fix these issues.

I was actually reading up about that today and plan to try it tommorrow. Thanks for the suggestion.

That was my first thought. I updated to the latest version of the panel just as I posted this thread and left it 24 hours to see if the stats started updating again. Unfortionatly they have not. After I have tried what Colleen mentioned the LXadmin forums will be my next point of call.

Couldn't edit so I had to make a new post. I have just been searching around and it turns out I am not the only one having this problem since the recent update.

I am trying some of the solutions there and will hopefully have working stats again within a couple of hours. Thought I would post up incase anyone else is having any problems.

**edit- Well I have finally found my stats. Looks like they have updated awstats, but not actually updated it. To me it just looks like a clean install. Instead of migrating the old stats they have just disregarded them.

The second one has updated ever since the first one stopped. This is since I have updated awstats. Looks like I will be porting the old stats across some time in the near future.

If your server runs at a high load for a few days the stats will not run as they are generally given a lower priority. This will cause the log file to hit it's max limit, and no further logs/stats will be recorded until that log is run by Awstats.

Try rebooting the server from WHM and check..

Seeming as the other poster mentioned WHM which isn't part of LXAdmin..yes..

The other part of the post wouldn't do much either. It is a common misconception that people believe rebooting the server will fix anything. It rarely if ever does, this is Linux..not Windows. 99.999% of the issues can be fixed quickly via SSH without a reboot being needed.

Just send support request mail to your control panel tech guys. Your host wont be able to sort out these kind of problems

This problem has been solved. Thanks for the post, but I did mention a few posts up about it being lxadmins new version that caused the confusion. They changed the location of the stats page and didn't remove, or redirect the old one.
