Default Should I shut down a server?

I am thinking of shutting down one of my three servers after freeing up a lot of disk space from them. The configurations of my servers are as follows

    1. Dual Xeon 2.4, Dual SCSI 73GB Drives, 1G RAM. - presently it is using 32% of its available disk space and around 30GB in bandwidth per month.

    2. Dual Xeon 3.0, Dual 120 IDE Drives, 2G RAM - presently it is using 45% of its available disk space and around 150GB bandwidth per month

    3. Dual Opteron 244, Dual 120 SATA Drives, 2GB RAM - presently it is using 48% of its available disk space and around 150GB bandwidth per month

I am think of closing down server 1 and moving the sites to the other servers. Server 1 used to host our shop which is now closed. I just can't see how I will need SCSI drives in future. I will save $259 a month by closing it down.

The only thing I am worried about is redundancy should something happen to one of them. However, both servers have been quite reliable lately although they are quite old. I wonder whethter you think it will be a major issue? Are there other considerations that I should think about?

I personally think the plan you've got is solid. None of them appear to be using much in the terms of bandwidth.

You could always cancel one, and upgrade to a more powerful one if needed in the future, then cancel another at that time.

I think what is more important than the hardware is the people making sure it running right. How are you doing in that department?

Far out you have some major hardware for sh*t all resource usage.

I could fit all the sites you have onto your opteron...

Really, you could take on a lot of hits or attacks for that matter with the amount of hardware you have...

I would keep the ones with the larger space and let go of the smaller server

Thanks for your advice. I have given notice to surender the server and have moved all the websites to our other servers. Although it was very hard work, it seems to have gone smoothly. I don't think I would dare risk putting everything on one server less anything goes wrong. In fact today, one of the server experienced a DOS attack by massive spam mail.

Anyway, this should result in a good $3108 savings for the year. Also, I can terminate 500 or more domains that should result in an extra $4000 or so annual savings. The current economic climate is certainly threatening and I am keeping a tight lid on costs.

I wouldn't depend on one server either for many reasons
