    Question GoDaddy VPS?

    Hey Guys,

I need some advice: Anyone have any experince with GoDaddy's VPS? Their $30 per month plan is looking good to me.

Here's the deal; I have a VPS with servint for my main site Our DJ Talk, I'm very satisfied with them and plan on sticking with them.

The deal is I want to keep that site separate for a few reasons the main reason is members have been donating to keep the site hosted, I don't think it's fair to piggy back my other sites on their dime.

I recently switched my blog(s) hosting to back to 1and1 from Dreamhost. 1and1 is just too slow for me plus I don't like the database caps. I've been thinking of getting a second VPS to host my blogs and another forum in the works. GoDaddy's $30 per month is the cheapest I've found so far.

Now I cannot stand GD's shared hosting. Are their VPS services any good?

    Thanks,
    Danny

FYI... Godaddy, along with hundreds of other companies that sell hosting / domains are just affiliates of wild west domains

Godaddy is just the most commercialized of the affiliates...

Godaddy owns WildWestDomains, it is their wholesale division that they set up affiliates under my man!

Well, I took the plunge and ordered it. Just found out today that Capital One upped my credit limit.

I'll let everyone know how things go. According the email I got I may have to wait up to 24 hours for one to be provisioned to me.

You should not have problems Danny, Godaddy is one of the largest web hosts in the world, as long as you don't require technical assistance you will be fine, they suck when it comes to live support!

Thanks Ant.. I generally don't need much support. I've had luck dealing with their email support.

My current host's (1and1) support is the worst. When you email them it takes 3 or 4 days for a reply plus nothing gets solved in less than 2 or 3 emails so the turn around time on support issues is 9-12 days. I've hosted with them a couple of different times. To start a hosting account it as simple as upgrading from the domain plan and they offer a money back guarantee but if you try to cancel before 30 days they tell you that you have to wait for the upgrade to "fully take effect". What a bunch of BS.

I've started moving my domain registrations over to GD too. So far I've moved 7. Their new control panel is awesome makes managing multiple domains a snap!

That's ironic because I moved away about 400 domains from them to Moniker.com because Moniker has much better tools for large portfolio management, Godaddy had been reducing the amount of tools (screens and sorting tools), they were actually better 2 years ago, that's why I dumped them!

Definately NO...It is better to purchase a vps from some real hosting company which offers good support as godaddy is bassically domain registration site mainly..Anthony i think Namecheap is best for domains

I had one cheap hosting account with godaddy as a test about a year ago, all and all it was not bad. However stats sucked, no real control panel, etc. Uptime was good though.

saad, Godaddy is actually one of the largest hosting companies in the world, they own their data center and also they own their own software development company called Starfield Technologies.

The problem I had with their hosting was technical support, if you know what you're doing you should not have major problems with their hosting, but you can find better support in other places.

If you don't need a lot of support and know what you're doing Godaddy has one thing going for them, they are a giant company that is not going away tomorrow like a lot of hosts are now days!

Actually, i mean it is better to purchase servers etc from companies like ThePlanet Rackspace instead of godaddy ofcourse not comparing with small companies as everyone has thier own hosting company now lol...Also goaddy provides remote reboot?

Yes, GoDaddy has remote reboot from their retarded "simple control panel"

I already canceled the VPS. I thought I hated cPanel... Their "simple control panel" is a helluva lot worse. Screw that, I have no mind to work with that monstrosity! Picture GD's shared hosting CP, only 10 times worse.

Bah! A $30 lesson (no refunds) Maybe I'll do a high end reseller account or stick it out where I am (1and) for the next few months.

Haha, I actually like both DreamHost's and 1and1's custom panels. Just their support/hosting or lack there of is the problem for me.

Danny, I am sorry I saw this post too late. Godaddy VPS is not that good, as you know. They use Plesk, which I hate compared to Cpanel and our VPS crashed 3 times this month we finally told them to put us on a new server...they did.

Hostgator is not bad, I use them for my annuity website, and we use the VPS for our other sites. I would wish I was on earlier to tell you to go elsewhere for hosting! BTW $50 for Plesk support from Godaddy....what a rip.

I didn't like plesk either, but many who use it claim Plesk is superior to cpanel. I've even read reviews showing plesk is superior, once you're used to something though it's hard to move to another system.

Yeah, you get used to how to do things in one panel. I tried quite a few and always go back to cpanel. I won't even consider hosting without it. I have a Dreamhost account, no problem when their service/support, but the panel, I can't handle it, No cpanel, no buy.

While we're on the topic of Ph.D doesn't it confuse you.. It does me, here's why:

Ph.D stands for Doctor of philosophy right?

Why isn't it D. Ph? Think about it: MD = Medical Doctor, RN= Registered Nurse, LPN = Licensed Nurse Practitioner

All the other acronyms go in lettered order.. Is PHD just something to philosophize over?

If this post makes no sense to you don't worry it didn't do me on proof read either but I took the time to type it.. I misewell let you take the time to read it.

lmao... you are so funny Danny.

I'm going to look at Rochen too. I'm getting too many sites on my reseller account

EDIT: NO way! How can you host 4 sites on only 2 GB of space and 50 GB of bandwidth?!?!? That plan costs $10 more per month than what I have now, with 10 gb of storage and 100 gb of b/w!

    *sigh* the search continues

Thanks. I think over time your best bet will be a VPS. I really recommend ServInt. You know how picky I am when it comes to hosting. I just downgraded to their Essential plan last week. At $50 per month it's not too bad. You can upgrade/downgrade easily, I downgraded without issue no hymning or hawing from them.

Still waiting for Rochen to provision me an account. I agree, price vs. features isn't the best but a support ticket answered in 2 minutes is awesome! Support and Uptime is what really counts to me. I've already found out my IP address and server name but cannot get into WHM yet. My blogs don't get much traffic so I'm not worried about bandwidth.

You have to be careful as to what is promised and what you actually get, how the host measures bandwidth is also key. Depending on how they measure it 50 gigs a month is not equal. Same with space, some will include all logs others will not, some include backups into your space, others do not. I've had hosts before also run out of drive space causing all my data bases to zero out!

true, if you're just using it for your blogs, then this should be fine for you.

I'll be going with servInt after the first of the year, their small account should be fine for me, more than enough
