    Default Recommended VPS for my site?

    Hey Guys,

    I would like to see your input about what vps should I go with. Right now, let me jot down what options I am seeking the most for in all the vps providers. I have been lurking around at webhostingtalk.com and following peoples recommendations and also the vps offers given at that site by numerous hosting companies.

    Requirements for my site:

    * 20-50GB in Disk Space
    * 500GB+ in Monthly Bandwidth
    * Cpanel/WHM Control Panels
    * Managed VPS Systems (Monitoring, Backups etc.)
    * 24/7 Live, Forum & Ticket Support
    * Min. RAM (320MB+) & Burstable (1024MB+)
    * A Very Good Uptime Guaranteed
    * DDoS Protection
    * PHP5 & MYSQL5
    * Unlimited MYSQL Databases with no limits in space
    * Full Root Access
    * Virtuozzo
    * Very very fast server
    * Pricing should be from US$35-80 per month

    Extra Features:

    * FFMPEG & MENCODER Compatibility
    * 30+ Day Money Back Guarantee
    * IP Addresses: 2 or more...
    * Site Migration done by the host (my site diskspace is 4.4 gb right now, needs to be moved from the built in hsphere control panel). I will not go with any hosting that will lose any of my data.

    Currently, my sites domain is being transferred from IXWEBHOSTING to GODADDY. I have had enough of handling the shared hosting through ixwebhosting, the system does give database and much more errors every now and then. Let me tell you about my website. It is Bangladesh's Largest Automotive Website, a 1 year old community with around 3700 members and about 70 active users everyday. We have around 50 members using the forum, the gallery and the whole website at the peak hours. I am more than sure that this will rise to almost 500 members within a year mainly because of the heavy advertisement we have done and also because we are now an established Limited Liability Company.

    The shared hosting at ixwebhosting was used for a year for WheelsBD.com (my concerned site) and I wish to enhance the ease of access for my site so that it doesnt go down every now and then and doesnt hang when too many users are active. I want to start off with a VPS and then move to a dedicated server once times flies by. For now, after researching, I have become totally interested with KnowHost, they seem to have the best reviews everywhere, not even one single negative comment was found by me about them. I have also looked and disturbed the people working at Hostican, Inmotion Hosting, VPSNext, VPSVille, VPSLand, ThePlanet, HOSTV. So far Hostican, Inmotion and HOSTV have become in my table for decision. But all three have had so much negative comments about them.

    I want to know whose vps you guys use and if it is any good or not...my site consists of vbulletin forum, photopost gallery, photopost classified and the joomla cms homepage, all integrated. You can lurk around my site as the following member login details and see if you find it a good site with a pretty good speed or not...I cannot distinguish it that well. My site contains mostly images and videos of 4.4gb in diskspace and the site eats around 50gb bandwidth every month and it keeps on rising every month. The site has two databases, one is around 120mb in size and the other is around 10mb in size, both will need to be uploaded by the hosting company.

    hey. I just switched to knownhost a few months ago from a hostgator reseller plan. I have their XXL plan slightly upgraded. I found if you don;t need the bandwidth, its cheaper to just upgrade their plan with ram and disk space then to go with a larger plan.

    Overall I am very pleased with KH. I do find that sometimes they don't read my support emails that carefully, but most of the time they get it and they are very helpful overall.

    Hi grim, thanks for the input, however dedicated seems quite expensive to me. I went for the VPS512 Package from WiredTree, its a managed vps system. I had to go with them since I found their flash tutorials and pdf guides quite attractive for a learner like me. I have already setup my accounts, transferring the site by myself as we speak. I wouldn't trust any site movers over myself either. Hopefully everything will go well. The extra space and bandwidth from this upgraded package for 55.00 dollars a month is quite good. I did use the promotion of 10 percent off. Thanks to all those who helped me out. Special thanks to knownhost as well since they seemed like a great company to deal with. If I am not happy with wiredtree, I will definitely go for knownhost next time. For me, vps might seem like a great upgrade thats why I might like wiredtree because from shared hosting account to a vps is indeed a big jump.

    You can try Liquidweb.com, they're good. Since you're in Asia, I think you should consider datacenter location. If you prefer in US, California or Seattle would be fine.

    It may be just because I'm a little teched in teh head, but I struggled with VPS hosting. I went fully dedicated and it's been a cake walk ever since, plus generally speaking the support is much better. But, I guess you get what you pay for.

    Plus dedicated servers can be had for about the same as a VPS.

    I picked up a spare, granted not a top of the line server but it suites it's purposes for $44 a month which includes directadmin and server management.

    Honestly I question whether you actually need a VPS - IXWebhosting and GoDaddy are *not* quality hosting providers. I mean if you are set on getting a VPS then more power to you but likely you can find a higher end shared hosting plan that will give you what you need for less money than a VPS without as much knowledge on server management required.

    A semi-dedicated plan would likely give you exactly what you are after without the big price tag of a cPanel/WHM VPS or a dedicated server.

    I'll say vps is must with amount of data he has. I experienced the trouble of shifting database and files without ssh.
    You can't rely on support who tune a diff song once you become their customer.
    And Vps are cheap nowdays ... you just need to search for a better deal(promo, coupon etc). And I am talking about reliable providers not the hosts run by 16 yr.

    Which is why you go with a reputable company with a solid history of excellent customer support that will perform the transfer for you or assist you as much as possible.

    You should do the appropriate research before signing up so you can avoid such hosts. There are *really good* hosts out there that do care about their customers and don't just "change their tune" after you sign up.

    I'm not saying a VPS is not a viable option - heck so is a 16 server cluster of dual quad core 8gb servers - but is it necessary??? I think not.

    I am right now with WiredTree's 512M Package, it's a good package for the buck. Thank you all for the inputs but I have to say, the move from shared hosting to a VPS was indeed very necessary. I am more than pleased with WiredTree, they give unbelievable support in 10 minutes or less and they get your work done. Why shared hosting wasn't enough, well the mysql databases would go down every now and then since too many users were online in the forum. The site would hang, though it never went down for bandwidth exceeding. The RAM would not be able to take it and the site was very very slow. It was fast when we had around 30 users online at once, once you have 100 users at once, shared hosting isn't right for you. This VPS package is for 6 months, if this isn't enough for my site, I will definitely move to a dedicated server, however I will prefer one with Cpanel. I am thinking theplanet/hivelocity will be taking my business by then.

    Im gonna have to recommend HostingDispatch.com because I currently host with them,and the support couldn't be better...I do have to wait for a response but i never wait longer then an hour or 2 but when I do get a response they go above and beyond the unmanage service. I askem one day as to why they do so much extra and their response was because they feel guilty for not catching the ticket faster.

    As fare as your requirements they have many options to choose from

    I"m always surprised by people who recommend a low end dedicated server over a VPS. It's like there is some stigma with having a VPS, even though the technology is very mature and reliable now, unlike in days past.

    One of the biggest problems I've seen with low-end dedicated servers is disk failure. Since most low-end servers don't have any kind of redundant storage, if you don't have backups of your data, you are out of luck if even a single disk fails. Most reputable VPS providers will always use some kind of RAID redundacy for their storage arrays. When you combine that with the ability to burst as needed, until you get into the $100+ range, it just doesn't make much sense to me to go with a dedicated over a VPS.

    Also a KnownHost user and very happy with their services. What I love most is that I am not a "server guy." I develop and design websites, but have never run my own server. With KnownHost, I can ask a question, request advice or even ask them to optimize my server for a specific need. They always are willing to help!

    Highly recommend them!
