Why did I change servers? Beacue of rude emails and customer support like this lovely letter I get for asking if my ssh access is open or not:

Thank you for taking time to contact Online Support. The SSH port is not blocked for incoming or outgoing connections on your server, you should be able to connect to your server via the IP address or if you have setup a domain to point to the IP address properly the domain. Please note that the dedicated server in your account is currently on our unmanaged support policy. These servers are sold with the understanding that the client will be able to administer their own server.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood but considering our server crashed 4 times in a month span and now they can't answer a simple question? Did I ask you for major support? NO! I managed the server fine you idiots! GODADDY is evil!
*exhales* I feel alittle better now...now back to your next rant.

no argument from me there. I've probably had 1/488th exposure to them as most of you but my little experience with them left a bad taste in my packet IP.

good luck with the server malefactors!!

I am so happy with the new server. Although its a pain learning the new cpanel I am happy to report that all my script install issues I have had in the past were obviously because of my server. We have this one directory script that we always had to alter a ton of code to force it to work. I just installed the new site and uploaded the script on the new server and it was flawless, install took all of 3 minutes. I am so happy to be done with godaddy, but still so mad I have wasted so much time (and money) on them too. Onward and upward!

I agree, so far our sites are much faster. I've been a wimp and haven't tried to move the SQL yet by hand but hopefully tomorrow and I can't wait to see if that helps.

Ok, I may be monoplozing this thread now. But I'm now on day 4 of my new VPS have yet to have it installed right. I change the nameservers, and they say I did that wrong (even though that is how ihave always done it before) which caused my mail to not work. Now I try there way with the nameservers and I can't get a site up, I now have 4 sites totally crashed forthe day so far and no end in site. I changed it back now to my way with the nameservers, I may not have mail but I'm hoping it propogates quickly and I can atleast get my sites up again. I finally (thanks to Danny) figured out how to physaiclly move my sqls which they want me to verify... but of course those sites are crashed now because of all the changing of nameservers. Why can't this nightmare just be behind me. Like I have time to waste on setting up a server that should have taken me all of a day to get all our sites over! GRRRRR *exhales*

I feel your pain on th nameservers.
Sometimes, I think it is the way the host companies sets up their servers.

Few months back, I got a reseller account and went through hell!>
My custom nameservers for some reason pointed off to another domain and nothing worked.
They were no help...it was my fault!

Are you talking about your name servers as in setting them with your registar or actually setting them up in the server itself?

I'm confused here as to which way you're speaking of.

Ummm. both kind of. I setup the nameservers on servint the way I had before for my old one. Then set it up on my registrar, things went ok but my mail didn't work and I had all these session errors coming up. So Servint told me I had to change to have
    ns1.domainA.com and
    ns1.domainB.com
    both having different IP addresses.
When I do it that way, my sites won't go up so who knows if it fixes the mail issue or not.

On my last VPS I had it set up
    ns1.domainA.com
    ns2.domainA.com
and it worked fine. No idea what is going on besides that fact that the 40 sites I had migrated already now have no mail, and 4 sites are crashed for the day so far with no solution in site.

I am not sure which end the problem is at frankly, the setup of the servint or my registrar but whatevere the issue, I am so annoyed with it all. I am hoping someone figures this out quickly and that by next week this nighmare will be a faded memory.

Didn't servint have the name servers setup on the actual VPS?
Then you should just of had to of changed your name servers at your registar for the domains themselves.

    ns1.domaina.com
ns1.domainb.com ? WTF never heard of that, I dont' have it that way at servint, never have.
    I have
    ns1.domain.com
    ns2.domain.com

never had an issue besides basic propogation.

My current help ticket is now at 1day 13 hours and this is my 4th help ticket so far LOL They probably hate me.. but thats what they get for not helping this out the first time.

FWIW, I had to setup my own nameservers. I dropped 2 support tickets over the process to ServInt because I didn't understand anything about it at the time.

    Mine are setup

    ns1.domain.com > IP 1
    ns2.domain.com > IP 2

Something about some registers won't accept two name servers with the same IP.. I don't know I just created a second set of name servers and plan on deleting the original ones. Watch my VPS blow up for screwing with perfection.

I don't know anything as to why the nameservers weren't setup. I didn't kno what to expect when getting this new VPS. I did get one site back up last night, my credit card site which of the 4 was the most important. My forum is gone and 2 directories, so I have to reinstall all those today hopefully. I still don't know if the mail works either. I got an email saying they added some code to get my mail to work. This says to me that atleaas I didn't do something wrong, obviously, if they're adding code, there was an issue outside my doing/control. God today has got to g o bette the then last few. Happy Tuesday everyone!

Kim try doing a trace route to a domain on your VPS to see what host server your on then search ServInt's forum for problems with that server.

Here is how to do a trace route:

Start > Run > Type cmd in the dialog box > a DOS prompt will open

At the prompt type: tracert domain.com

Here is an example of what you should see:
    traceroute.jpg

The second to last line will tell you what server you are on, for instance I'm on smv1866. This is also a good way to see if the domain is pointing to your new server yet.

With cpanel it is a brease to setup, mine however was all setup for me with them. I had to register them with the registar of course but that was it.

All of my servers have always been setup with 2 seperate IP's for the name servers, isnt' that the correct way of doing things.

I'm actually to be honest a bit confused here as to what is all going on and what has gone on. You get 2 base IP's for the name servers, you enter them into the whm part of the server setup assigning them to your name servers. You then register these name servers with the registar. Of course if there is a mismatch you're going to have problems.

I don't understand why servint isn't just going in and setting them up correctly though. I have only had to use support when I originally signed up and they damn near bent over backwards to help me. Ever since 'months and months' I have not even had to talk to them.

Sorry for the double post, but my latest update from Servint NOC is saying that in order to get my mail to work they have to disable my vB mail?

Does anyone in here use both Servint VPS and vB and have the function work?
I swear I am getting the newbies at NOC, how can this be such a major issue. Its mail! Better yet, why do these issues always happen to me?

I called servint and talked to Christian J. Dawson (703)847-1381 Voice (703)847-1383 Fax Director of Corporate Development (703)288-3530 Direct ServInt Internet Services www.servint.net dawson -at- servint.com in regard to vB mail before I setup shop there.

He was very clear that the vbulletin mail system was allowed and not considered spammy in any way.

I use vB mail and I use SMTP via php. Both work fine. I don't use the vB SMTP mail however.
