    Default "Directories"

Many of the directories have long process to submissions, captcha not working quite well, or loading slowly which actually waste a lot of time.
What are the qualifications of a good directory, there are many of them out there especially the free ones. How will i know which is good or not.

    Thanks

I tend to avoid the ones that require a reciprocal link. You go to the trouble of putting a link on your site before you sign up for the link, give the URL of the place where the reciprocal link is, hit submit and it says you are rejected because no reciprocal link was found

Thanks Autumn for the response so i should avoid those ones that requires reciprocal linking, is it because google frowns at that?

That and I simply do not like 'reciping' links.

I like a directory with it's own design, own directory structure, PR is not necessary but helps.

I also avoid the ones that require reciprocal links (need to be cautious of link farms!). I try to find directories that cater especially to my blog's category (i.e. if it's a hobby blog, I look for hobby-centered directories). This will help get targeted traffic easily.

There are a number of sites that have a review process such as Directory Critic and Vilesilencer, so sometimes going to these places can help you weed out at least some of the low quality directories.

Posted this somewhere... hope this helps

    Factor to consider:
High PR - indication that Google sees some value in the directory.
Well maintained - listed sites are in the proper category
High Traffic - getting traffic could be minimal from directories, but majority are targeted
Kewords ranking high in SERP - Well optimized, shows that the directory is well-marketed and SEO'ed.

    Which to avoid:
Link farms that pose as directories
    Directories that require reciprocal links
Crappy ones with crappy sites listed
