I just started my directory yesterday and I already got hit by a spam link
How do you deal with those stupid links?
You don't. :P
I have my blogs online,
even my test blogs (test.domain.com) where ther'es no actual content, get swarmed with spam comments.
And my wppotential, is getting spammed with Registrations. :\
Don't understand the benefit of registering...

You have a directory, you will get spammed.
Pure and simple.
Just delete them and move on.
Blogs....I really think that using askimet welcomes spam!
Two blogs I have askimet on, I get spammed by the hundreds (porn spam, all google groups!).
The other blogs, not using askimet, no spam at all!
Really dawg?
That's a good possibility.
I've heard there are more powerful alternatives in wp plugins instead of askismet.
I beleive I may look into them.
And EmmaB, try using a Captcha script? :P

I do have captcha enabled. And I love Akisment, I also find that little counter so cool

Go for it Dawg! :P
I think i know where to find a good alternative.. sec, I'll edit post.

here try this? http://unknowngenius.com/blog/wordpress/spam-karma/

Will try that one, but it is not the one I saw the other day.
Saw you have it up Dawg, let me know how that one goes.

Don;t like it that much.
It throws up a bar at the bottom of the page when it catches spam.
I noticed that when I went to your site.
Looked terrible.

Guess it does help to read about the plugin and the options.
Now that bar does not show up as I disabled it. (the bar, not the plugin)
Haha, So, now that you fixed that horrible add-on.
How is it?![]()

Either I am missing something, or it does not show the actual spam it catches.
So far, just 2 caught, which is like 50-100 askimet showed at this same time period.
That means that this stops the spam quick and I never see them, or the spammers are taking a day off!
So, is that a positive response? :P
I get a lot of those, I guess it's hard to avoid when you build a directory
Almost everyone gets spammed at one point. Just ignore them and delete![]()
Captcha and moderation - a bit tedious but thats the more apt way to deal with them.
Better delete those links you think are spam. I agree with Mrcat, that is another way to avoid them.
Sheesh they are quick!mg:
