Thread: Directories Continue to Do Better in Google

Thanks to a new report from Web-directories.ws, it is possible to see that the directory industry is still going strong. Sometimes as we see certain directories get penalized or lose pagerank, there can be a perception that the directory industry is losing ground. Fortunately, the numbers tell a much different story:

Great, I hope they do well for you.

good for you, most of the directories I submitted needed to wait for a week approval before it was posted.

This is good news for my only directory site however I may decide to create another soon.

Directories are great way to build backlinks.

Right now,demand of niche directories especially travel directory is really high.

yes niche directories is the way to go. I have one and while its not making me rich, it does alright. try and find your niche.

Yeah usually people get indexed better in google and always ask why they arent doing so good in yahoo

Good news. However, recently I've heard google is giving less credit to links inside the directories. can anyone back this up?

Part of the reason for that is Yahoo. Their share of the search market has steadily declined.

Those are nice stats. It only proves to show that not all directories are being penalized.

Directories will still remain as great sources of one-way links for years to come IMO

Yes, this is one of the reasons I posted this. It is easy to see a few high profile directories get banned or lose all their pagerank, and then proclaim the World is ending. Directories still have plenty of challenges, but there are lots of innovative folks coming up will all sorts of new ways to use or profit from their directory.

Well my next target is to create directory which gives more content than just listings.
I think Google will penalize for those directories who don't care about quality websites that gets submitted. Some are turning into link farms, so those are the ones who gives directory a bad name in the industry.

You will have to be careful because you will be creating basically a content site selling lots of links and we all know that google hates sites that sell links.

Yes, if people would put more effort into building a quality directory, I think they would also be more likely to make money over time. Too many people want fast money, rather than building a quality resource that will consistently earn over time.

yeah directory submission can give better in SEO even now.

So long as you plan to maintain the quality of your directory - you won't have any problem with Google.

Since I got a new one, I better get to thinking about all of this stuff, to make sure I am positioned right, any more suggestions on how to get a new directory going in the right direction?

Sure, add more features and content to your directory. If you are just sitting and waiting for submissions, that would not be a good thing. Think about how you can make your site worth visiting again, not just a place to submit.

Yes I am agreeing with you. I have also above 2000 directories submitted for my site and it is doing better in Google....

Many of them though request reciprocal links. When I was posting in travel and trade directories, I found that almost 70% those I found, would only approve my listing if I show where I have their link on my pages. This fact discouraged me using directory submissions. Those listed finally (very few) never seen to come up in searches, neither I found them in backlinks or indexed for search. Anyway, maybe this post wants to encourage me look into it again.

I have a huge list of over 800 directories I was working out.

I think yahoo is quicker to crawl compared to Google.

Hey its great list this will help me a lot. You solved my problem by providing me this list.

I also hopefully that i was doing well at google.I have alexa rank 114K,pr 1 and more than 8000 links.I was waiting google update my page rank.But as i know,it was the next page rank will be next month(April).

The site i'm working is doing good in google but the problem is that the cpc is so high.

Mine too its work but the cpc is so high..
