Thread: Hate my directory script

Ok, I used esyndicat on all my directories and HATE it! The have so many bugs, every time someone submits a paid listing we have no way to tell which directory it came from, and doesn't hold the information they submitted so I have to look like an idito and ask them to email me there info.
Anyway, if I find a new directory script to use, do I just replace the script and hook it up to the same SQL, will that keep all my current listings? I am hoping it is that simple

If there is an importer for the data, you can save your listings.

If there is not, the likelyhood the tables are the same is slim and none.

But there's always a way. It's just data.

A converter could probably be written in under 200 lines of code. That's a guess, but I'll go out on a limb due to the simplicity of directory scripts and say it wouldn't take a DB programmer more then a couple three hours.

I can take the database dump and convert it for you, Kim. If you want.

I don't recommend anything over phplinkdirectory, especially phplinkdirectory paid, it's the best directory script.

I just think it's best you install things and give them a shot cause you may like something different.

That was the first script I used, site sift.
After a few months, found phpld and poof! site sift was history.

Yeah, either version of phpld is the best.
Now to get ready to build up some directories once I have them on a new host.

The same goes with all scripts, no matter what reviews you read. Install a few, play with some demos or something before setting your sites on one. Even when new ones come out it never hurts to try them out somewhere as well, you may end up wanting to convert.

That is just what I do.
Play with scripts and templates.
Then delete them if I don't like them.

Speaking of directories, have four good domain names, now just need a niche for each one (no more general directories).

Any ideas for niches?

topzdir.com - Possibly a car directory? 'Z' lots of cars or a 'toplist' site directory.
zippydir.com - Computer related
foxxydir.com - Models
bizzydir.com - Business

Just what came to my head, didn't think too long

Two I can probably figure out some good categories, etc.
Cars and models, now those would take me longer.
Plus have to see just how good those niches are for a directory to get paying business.

But it is a start and does give me ideas.

Just remembered and checked to make sure.
I have a celebrity script with something like 2500 pictures.
May try that out on foxxydir.
