    Default Directories a dying breed?

With such a plethora of new directories opening up each day, I do believe that at some point, directories will be no longer the place for a link.

    I could be wrong.

The other thing, I and so many others spend time on a new directory, only to be lambasted for the new directory being a paid directory.
OHHHHH...no pr! Same ip!! and so forth.

And build up a good looking directory, paid, and some idiot will then create a new directory that is not a rip off of yours, but damn close. And offer everything FREE.

Now I see phpld templates being whored out!

Just wonder if it is worth continuing on with directories?

Keep it quality and I think you'll be fine.

I myself am doing a few directories, but not really to compete with directory owners at all. My intention is simply to have a few directories I can add new sites to in order to get crawled.

That is why I started with directories.
To load them up with my links first.

Yeah, have some directories I would like to sell off, but with the ads I sold and the featured ads, would not bring what I would like.
Plus as many people have found out, despite promises or conditions that new owner must keep the paid ads, they do disappear shortly.

And it is odd, seeing directories for sale that are brand new, how in the hell did they get a pr of 3 or better?
Especially when nothing was on that domain previous?

There are too many general directories, but if you choose to go with a niche directory there many opportunities. I just going to concentrate in some specific areas and probably I will do much better.

Niche is the way to go.

General directories are becoming way over done. The success of phpLD will become the death of phpLD.

Sure they are selling lots now, but when the directory market crashes, and it will, they will not be selling so many copies of the script.

I'm certain Google will be working on a way to discount all those low quality cookie cutter general directories. Only the strong will survive.

Exactly! I believe the whole internet is going niche just to cut down on competition. Our directories are going in the niche direction as well. Our goal is to create the best regional directory possible....But that is far off in the future LOL.

Web directories are technically Link Farms, with hundred coming up each day...now how will google treat them in the near future would not be a wild guess

New directories may be coming up at a very fast pace, but at a faster rate these directories are dying down...

Just wonder if it is worth continuing on with directories?
Yup i still fell that if you have the advertising bucks, one can always built a commercially viable directory....

But if your advertising money is 0$, you are better off with a free directory

And like they already said, stick to niches
