I was thinking of starting a directory. Do you guys have any advice on what software to use? I don't think Fantastico has pre-installed link directory software. I saw a good template for phpLD 3.0 but are there any open source options available? I know their 2.0 addition is available for free, but I'm not sure how stable it is and the template I like wouldn't work with it.

Is there any advice on setting up and running the directory? Thanks for the help.

I've tried many, many link scripts and I still prefer phpld myself.

PHPLD is the best, bar none!
The free version, there are plenty of free templates to go with it, plus plenty of paid templates.

Go to the paid version of phpld, and again there are plenty of free and paid templates.

If you have a template you like, and it is for the paid version (3.0 up), then purchase a license and go for it.

Thanks for the feeback. Should I pay that $10 extra?

$10 for access to the Supporters Forum, where you will have access to the Pagerank Updater tool, mods, fixes, free hosting (at the time of this post), closer access to the programmers, and a little more "voice" on the features that will come next.

Pay it when it comes time you actually need it, or else don't bother, you are allowed to pay that $10 at a later date.

As you are too new in this field,I'd recommend you start with Phpld, one of the most popular scripts nowadays.
If you are interested, you could also try ssl and the new version is on the way, there will be many new features that phpld doesn't have.
Some new features are really cool,I can't wait to see the new version!

Please do let us know if you have any questions about your directory

I was originally just thinking of setting up a directory just to keep track of the numerous forums I have come across. Now I realize that there are additional advantages to having one. I'm leaning towards phpld, but I probably won't get to it until the end of the month. When I have it set up, I'll make a post about it. Thanks for all the help.
