Thread: Blog Directory vs Web Directory

Hello all,

I am jumping into the directory ownership business and as such reserved two domain names, one for a general web directory and one for a blog directory. My idea was to start the general directory first and then a few months down the road start the blog directory.

However since blogs and blogging is the flavor of the day, I'm wondering if I should start the blog directory first and then the web directory later. Or do both at the same time...?

I say go with the blog ones, now's the moment. For normal directories you don't need to rush.

Yes, go for the blog directory first.

I have a directory that I am working on myself.
Still up in the air as to whether a general directory or whether I will niche it to blogs, forums, or something else.

I would start them both at the same time. When someone submits their blog on your general directory, you may even include a line of text on the submission page that says something like:

"Thank you for your submission, if this is a blog you may also like to submit it to..."

...and have it link to your blog directory.

With blogging becoming so popular there is a demand for decent blog directories if i had to choose between the two i would go with the blog directory definitely.

I agree. Starting a blog directory seems better with the popularity over blogs nowadays. Web directories aren't going away anytime soon so you can probably do that anytime.

My advice agrees with majority here, go for Blog Directories. Create sharing and friending features.

I'm still working on the template but you are free to submit your blog. As of right now there is no link back required but you will need to register because I have enabled the ability to submit articles as well.

One thing I noticed though is the "Contact Us" in the navigation at the top is a bit off, just thought I'd let you know.

I would have submitted our blog but I'm not sure where because ours if a general blog.

Sorry I did not reply earlier. When I was on the site, I was at my day job and boss came by (lol).

Thanks for the feedback on the template. It's a freebie that I modified a little to suit my purposes. I'm still working on getting it to look right in internet explorer.

Anyway, what topic do you talk mainly about on your blog? That will help in knowing what category it should go in.

I also had a few directories websites but they havent made me much money. I feel that directory is not good business. I havent tried blog directory but I think it might has a chance.
